One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 10, Page 1982-1991, October 2026.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Systemic Bevacizumab for Severe Bleeding From Acquired Gastrointestinal Vascular Malformations

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 101, Issue 10, Page 2605-2615, October 2026.
Targeted antiangiogenic therapy with systemic bevacizumab for bleeding from acquired GI VMs was found to be safe and effective for chronic and severe bleeding from acquired vascular malformations due to idiopathic angiodysplasia, chronic liver disease, and deficiencies of von Willebrand factor, in a patient population comprised mostly of heavily ...

Association of Iron Homeostasis With One‐Year All‐Cause Mortality Among Intensive Care Unit Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 49, Issue 10, October 2026.
This retrospective study examined the prognostic role of iron markers (ferritin, serum iron, transferrin, TIBC) in intensive care unit patients with atrial fibrillation. Elevated ferritin was associated with increased mortality, whereas higher transferrin and TIBC predicted lower mortality, highlighting their potential for risk stratification. ABSTRACT

Resveratrol Pretreatment and Decabromodiphenyl Ethane‐Associated Hepatorenal Changes in a High‐Dose Female Mouse Model: Redox Changes and Ferroptosis‐Associated Markers

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
This graphical abstract summarizes the endpoints examined in a 28‐day high‐dose DBDPE exposure model in female mice and the changes associated with resveratrol (Res) pretreatment. DBDPE exposure was accompanied by redox imbalance, higher iron‐assay values, changes in ferroptosis‐associated markers, mitochondrial ultrastructural abnormalities, and ...

Development and Validation of a Nomogram Based on Red Blood Cell and Reticulocyte Parameters for Differentiating Thalassemia Trait From Iron Deficiency Anemia

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 19, October 2026.
Thalassemia trait (TT) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) are the primary causes of microcytic hypochromic anemia with overlapping hematological features, making their differential diagnosis challenging, so this study developed and validated a nomogram integrating red blood cell (RBC) count, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), reticulocyte percentage (RET ...

Clinicopathogenetic variants of anemia in patients with intestinal inflammation

open access: yesТерапевтический архив, 2012
Aim. To study factors of anemia pathogenesis in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Material and methods. A total of 80 patients (56% males and 44% females, mean age 39±15.8 years) with UC and CD were divided into two groups ...
