Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Bifidobacterium Transformation

open access: yes, 2021
The protocol presented in this chapter describes a generic method for electrotransformation of Bifidobacterium spp., outlining a technique that is ideal for conferring selective properties onto strains as well as allowing the user to introduce or knock out/in selected genes for phenotypic characterization purposes.

Correlation between the triglyceride-glucose index and left ventricular global longitudinal strain in patients with chronic heart failure: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology
Background Left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS) holds greater diagnostic and prognostic value than left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in the heart failure (HF) patients.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Appell Transformation and Canonical Transforms [PDF]

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2011
The interpretation of the optical Appell transformation, as previously elaborated in relation to the free-space paraxial propagation under both a rectangular and a circular cylindrical symmetry, is reviewed. Then, the caloric Appell transformation, well known in the theory of heat equation, is shown to be amenable for a similar interpretation involving

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Dual-Sliding-Mode-Observer-Based IPMSM Sensorless Control Technique

open access: yesComplexity
Back electromotive force (EMF)-based sliding mode observer (SMO) is increasingly employed for interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) sensorless drives due to its high robustness to external disturbance and low sensitivity to system ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
