pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Formation mechanism of defects in the wall of a petroleum casing steel pipe

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2022
In this study, the defects in the wall of petroleum casing steel pipe were investigated. The morphology and composition of inclusions in the defects of the steel pipe were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Scattering cross-section of a transformation optics-based metamaterial cloak

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2010
We present experimental quantitative scattering cross-section (SCS) measurements for a metamaterial cloak. The cloak is nearly identical to that reported in 2006; however, quantitative experimental measurements have not yet been reported for such a structure.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Transformational leadership competency: a cross-sectional study of medical university graduates in China

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine, 2023
To explore the transformational leadership competency of graduates from one medical university in China and its influencing variables. From 2020 to 2021, 851 medical graduates from seven hospitals affiliated with the Capital Medical University participated in this survey.

Isospectrals of non-uniform Rayleigh beams with respect to their uniform counterparts [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2018
In this paper, we look for non-uniform Rayleigh beams isospectral to a given uniform Rayleigh beam. Isospectral systems are those that have the same spectral properties, i.e. the same free vibration natural frequencies for a given boundary condition.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
