Insecticide Resistance Alters Oviposition Preference in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Using isogenic Drosophila melanogaster lines that differ at the well‐characterised Cyp6g1 resistance locus, we show that insecticide resistance is associated with altered oviposition site choice—an adaptive behaviour with transgenerational fitness consequences.

Tracking Cell Movement in Two‐Dimensional, Fragmented Microcosms Reveals Dispersal Syndromes and Strategies in Tetrahymena thermophila

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Dispersal strategies of the ciliate Tetrahymena thermophila were investigated using ‘two‐dimensional’ artificial landscapes, allowing for camera tracking of individual cell trajectories during all steps of the dispersal process. Strains showed distinct strategies at emigration, either increasing or decreasing movement traits (swimming speed and ...

An evolutionary perspective on the response‐effect framework

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 298-310, February 2026.
Abstract The response‐effect framework (REF) has provided a foundational approach in functional ecology, using traits to predict how species respond to environmental factors (‘response traits’) and influence ecosystem functioning (‘effect traits’).

Posttraumatic Stress and Mentalization in Accounting for Veteran Parents' Use of Corporal Punishment: Parental Over‐Certainty Matters for Multiracial Children

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, Volume 31, Issue 1, Page 304-314, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Posttraumatic stress symptoms have been closely linked with the use of harsh parenting practices in veteran families. This study was aimed at assessing the potential added importance of parent mentalization in predicting the use of corporal punishment among US veterans. A hypothesized hierarchical regression model in which parent mentalization

From business to legacy: The strategic role of Family Offices in family life

open access: yesFamily Relations, Volume 75, Issue 1, Page 695-711, February 2026.
Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to explore how Family Offices (FOs) function as relational and strategic structures designed by business families to preserve their wealth, values, and cohesion across generations. Background Unlike traditional financial institutions, FOs place the family—not just the assets—at the center of their ...

Ethanol Alters DNMT1/3a/3b Expression Profile, Promotes Persistent DNA Hypomethylation in Human Brain Endothelial Cells and Impairs Late Cortical Angiogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 2, February 2026.
Ethanol exposure alters brain endothelial cell function and blood–brain barrier integrity. In human brain microcapillary endothelial cells (HBMEC) and mouse brain endothelial cells (MBEC) from a prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) model, ethanol increased DNA methyltransferas‐1 (DNMT1) activity and reduced DNA methylation, affecting DNMT3a/3b, methyl‐CpG ...
