Analog Control of Reconfigurable GHz Resonances from Chiral Spin Texture Ensembles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Tunable microwave components ‐ essential for wireless technology ‐ typically require costly, customized nanofabrication. We show that ambient spin texture ensembles (e.g., magnetic skyrmions) in chiral multilayer films can enable reconfigurable microwave resonators.

The Enhanced Performance SVC for Transient Instability Oscillation Damping

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2014
AbstractTo utilise green energy, renewables have penetrated into utility. However, its intermittent nature affects on power quality and network stability. Static var compensators (SVCs) have been installed in order to gain power quality improvement. Nevertheless, lacking of real power support, the SVCs cannot minimise any instability.

Isotopically Selected Co‐Doping of 121Sb and 123Sb Pairs in Silicon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Pairs of 121Sb and 123Sb atoms are doped into silicon using single cluster implantation and found to reside substitutionally within the crystal lattice due to self‐annealing with a Sb‐to Sb separation of ≈2 nm. Molecular dynamics simulations reproduce the observed experimental results and single ion cluster detection efficiencies of 94% are ...

Extended Critical Damping Adjustment Method for Electromagnetic Transients Simulation in Power Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Numerical oscillation is a common phenomenon in the current electromagnetic transient digital simulation in power systems. From the origin of the numerical oscillation, we proposed an extended critical damping adjustment method (ECDA) to solve the ...

Initial-Phase Spectroscopy as a Control of Entangled Systems

open access: yes, 2010
We introduce the concept of initial-phase spectroscopy as a control of the dynamics of entangled states encoded into a two-atom system interacting with a broadband squeezed vacuum field.

Activating a Metallization Switch for Record Hydrogen Evolution in Single‐Atom Modified Polar MOF Piezocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Piezocatalytic hydrogen evolution enables the conversion of mechanical energy into chemical fuels, but its efficiency is constrained by a trade‐off between piezoelectric polarization and electronic conductivity. Strong piezoelectric polarization is essential for sufficient driving force, yet highly polar materials typically suffer from poor ...

A Coordinated Dual-Channel Wide Area Damping Control Strategy for a Doubly-Fed Induction Generator Used for Suppressing Inter-Area Oscillation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Using a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), with an additional active or reactive damping controller, is a new method of suppressing the inter-area oscillation of a power system. However, using active power modulation (APM) may decrease the damping of

Simultaneous H2O:O2 Co‐Reactant Pulsing for Functional Property Control of Atomic Layer Deposited ZnO, TiO2, and Al2O3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Simultaneous H2O:O2 co‐pulsing in thermal ALD modulates surface hydroxylation to engineer nanovoids and properties in ZnO, TiO2, and Al2O3. The ligand‑dependent pathway promotes c‑axis‑textured ZnO, reduced‑crystallinity yet Ti4+‑preserved TiO2, and highly transparent, hydrophilic Al2O3, while lowering the refractive indices.

The acceleration of energetic particles in the interplanetary medium by transit-time damping [PDF]

open access: yes
Transit time damping is examined as a possible means for accelerating low energy particles in co-rotating streams and interstellar ions. Data show that: the protons in co-rotating streams may be accelerated by transient-time damping the small-scale ...
