Human Perception of Transient Vibrations

Journal of the Structural Division, 1974
An experimental investigation was conducted to study human perception of transient vertical vibrations in terms of their frequency, maximum displacement, and damping. A portion of the testing program consisted of undamped vibrations, and the response data were compared with the results of past research.

The transients of a multiresonant vibrator

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1979
When a periodic force is applied to a complex vibrator, the motion builds up exponentially in much the same manner as that of a point-mass compliant-element vibrator. But, in addition, a transient is generated that resembles very much the switching-on transient of a high-pass filter.

Transient Vibration of Rectangular Plates

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1960
In this paper the authors consider the response of rectangular plates to transient forces. It is shown that for an impulse applied to a cantilever plate, there is reasonable agreement between theoretical and experimental curves for the resulting transient vibration, when the response in a small number of modes is considered and approximate expressions

A variable stiffness vibration absorber for minimization of transient vibrations

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1992
Abstract An adaptable vibration absorber has been designed and investigated. The objectives of the absorber are to: (a) minimize transient vibrations of rotating machines during start-up and shut-down conditions, and (b) to adapt to changes in steady state operating speeds such as might occur in engines and pumps when load conditions vary.

Active and Parametric Vibration Protection of Transient Vibrations

2016
This chapter is devoted to the analysis of transient vibration of linear dynamical systems. The Laplace transform method and Heaviside expansion method are explained. These methods are applied to analysis of linear oscillators subjected to different types of force and kinematic excitation (shock, impulse, recurrent instantaneous pulses).

Effects of Thermal Transients on Cracked Shaft Vibrations

Volume 6: Structures and Dynamics, Parts A and B, 2011
Thermal transients can cause significant changes in the dynamic behavior of cracked rotors. The thermal expansions of the shafts cause changes of the distribution of stresses and strains, whose effects can give rise to the separation or the contact between portions of the surfaces of transverse cracks.

Transient Vibration by Vector Methods

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1966
SummaryIn control theory, stability is investigated by established techniques such as the root-locus method. The same techniques may be applied to the control equivalent of a mechanical system and will show the transient state of the system. Vector methods such as are used to solve vibration problems may also be extended to give transients. This note ...

Ab Initio Transient Vibrational Spectral Analysis

The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2016
Pump probe spectroscopy techniques have enabled the direct observation of a variety of transient molecular species in both ground and excited electronic states. Time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy is becoming an indispensable tool for investigating photoinduced nuclear dynamics of chemical systems of all kinds.
