Ovarian Carcinomas with Transitional Cell Carcinoma Patter

The authors report 88 cases of ovarian carcinoma containing areas of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). The tumors were found in women 28-76 years old (mean, 51 years). Fifteen patients presented with stage II, 59 with stage III, and 14 with stage IV disease. Ten neoplasms were composed of only TCC, 48 were predominantly TCC, and 30 had foci of TCC but

AbstractA rare case of retroperitoneal transitional cell carcinoma arising from primitive urogenital remnants is described in a 50‐year‐old female. The patient had a 15 × 12 cm firm to cystic mass in the left iliac fossa which was markedly adherent to retroperitoneal structures and which could not be excised.

Canine TCC of the bladder is a disease for which early detection and multimodality therapy are likely to produce the most favorable results. Urine screening tests are being investigated as tools to permit earlier detection. The possibility of tumor seeding must be considered when obtaining urine for analysis and when performing surgery.
