Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt: A Literature Review
Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, or TIPS, is a procedure used to decompress the portal system resulting from portal hypertension. The technique was inadvertently discovered during a transjugular cholangiography procedure around 1969 ...

ABSTRACT Neonates with infracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) frequently require urgent treatment. If surgical repair is contraindicated due to extreme prematurity, interventional stenting of the ductus venosus (DV) has been introduced successfully to postpone surgery.

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt
The transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is a relatively new method of creating a portosystemic shunt using a needle, angioplasty balloon catheters and expandable metallic stents. During a 6-month period, the authors have performed TIPS, using the spiral Z-stent--another modification of the Gianturco-Rósch stent--in 13 patients with ...

In a retrospective cohort of 1,624 adults with cirrhosis, sarcopenia was independently associated with unplanned hospitalization, death, and cirrhosis progression (or death) in patients with decompensated disease. In compensated cirrhosis, sarcopenia was associated only with a higher risk of unplanned hospitalization.

Budd-Chiari syndrome treated with direct intrahepatic portocaval shunt: A case report

We are all trying to predict what we don’t know!
The current issue of Annals of Hepatology has multiple articles trying to predict different aspects of liver disease: steatohepatitis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), steatosis and fibrosis in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients ...

ABSTRACT Background & Aims Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) improves survival in refractory ascites. A careful patient's selection is mandatory as TIPS can lead to complications. Liver volumetry is predictive of outcomes before hepatic surgery, but data on its role before TIPS placement are scarce. We aimed to evaluate whether liver

ABSTRACT Background and Aims The role of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in older adults remains controversial because of limited risk‐stratification tools. We aimed to assess whether sarcopenia and myosteatosis are independently associated with post‐TIPS mortality and overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE) in patients aged ≥ 70 years,
