Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Shaping the Worldview of Future Translators through Psychology of Discourse

open access: yesПроблеми сучасної психології
The purpose of our research is to show the types of lexical units and their interconnection, to distinguish five types of frame structures, which largely determine the formation of the future translator’s image of the world.

Decoding the dynamic extracellular matrix in cancer—3D models and bioscaffolds rewire the rules of tumor progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Combining semantic and syntactic generalization in example-based machine translation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, we report our experiments in combining two EBMT systems that rely on generalized templates, Marclator and CMU-EBMT, on an English–German translation task. Our goal was to see whether a statistically significant improvement could be achieved

Gender differences in barriers to sports participation on the transition from adolescence to young adulthood in a mediterranean region

open access: yesPreventive Medicine Reports
Objective: This study explored gender differences in perceived barriers to physical activity across adolescence and their impact on sport participation. Methods: A 3-year longitudinal survey followed Spanish secondary school students (n = 180) into their

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Transglutaminase 2 mediates hypoxia-induced selective mRNA translation via polyamination of 4EBPs

open access: yesLife Science Alliance, 2020
This study highlights the role of transglutaminase 2 in selective mRNA translation of hypoxic cancer cells by polyamination-dependent modulation of 4EBPs, providing a target for cancer treatment.
