Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Protein Kinases at the Intersection of Translation and Virulence
As free living organisms, fungi are challenged with a variety of environmental insults that threaten their cellular processes. In some cases, these challenges mimic conditions present within mammals, resulting in the accidental selection of virulence ...

Traffic into silence: endomembranes and post-transcriptional RNA silencing. [PDF]
microRNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) are small RNAs that repress gene expression at the post-transcriptional level in plants and animals. Small RNAs guide Argonaute-containing RNA-induced silencing complexes to target RNAs in a sequence-

Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Extensive allele‐specific translational regulation in hybrid mice
Translational regulation is mediated through the interaction between diffusible trans‐factors and cis‐elements residing within mRNA transcripts. In contrast to extensively studied transcriptional regulation, cis‐regulation on translation remains ...

Transcription of the sporulation gene ssgA is activated by the IcIR-type regulator SsgR in a whi-independent manner in Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2). [PDF]
SsgA plays an important role in the control of sporulation-specific cell division and morphogenesis of streptomycetes, and ssgA null mutants have a rare conditionally non-sporulating phenotype.

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Translational regulation of maternal mRNAs
Translational regulation of maternal mRNAs serves to constrain their activities in both time and space. Both types of constraint might be expected to be critical for normal development and the rather short list of maternal mRNAs for which this has been shown to be true has expanded considerably over the past year.

Genome-wide translational profiling of the inflammatory response of macrophages to LPS [PDF]
Introduction: Exercise causes both inflammation and anti-inflammation and the details are complex. Genome-wide analysis, including proteomics or RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), is beneficial to reveal the complexity and to screen novel factors.

Posttranslational modifications of GLUT4 affect its subcellular localization and translocation [PDF]
The facilitative glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) is expressed in adipose and muscle and plays a vital role in whole body glucose homeostasis. In the absence of insulin, only ~1% of cellular GLUT4 is present at the plasma membrane, with the vast ...
