Approximate analytical effective phase function obtained for a thin slab geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The reflection and transmission of light from a slab containing a turbid medium provide a scattering effective phase function from which the true optical anisotropy factor may not be always easily retrieved.

Thin sample refractive index by transmission spectroscopy

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
Transmission spectroscopy and a small number of refractometer index measurements are combined to provide refractive index measurements of transparent samples ~50 um thick at hundreds of wavelengths with absolute accuracies

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Method for Identifying Maize Haploid Seeds by Applying Diffuse Transmission Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2017
The identification for haploid seeds is an important process in maize haploid breeding. Thanks to the diffuse transmission (DT) technology of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, maize haploid seeds can be selected automatically using NIR spectrum features.

Detection of nanoparticles by means of reflection electron energy loss spectroscopy depth profiling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The various studies of nanoparticles are of great importance because of the wide application of nanotechnology. The shape and structure of the nanoparticles can be determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and their chemistry by electron ...

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Remote imaging laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy and laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy using nanosecond pulses from a mobile lidar system

open access: yes, 2006
A mobile lidar system was used in remote imaging laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) experiments. Also, computer-controlled remote ablation of a chosen area was demonstrated, relevant to cleaning of cultural ...

SPECtrophotometer for TRansmission Spectroscopy of Exoplanets (SPECTR)

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
Abstract The SPECtrophotometer for TRansmission spectroscopy of exoplanets (SPECTR) is a new low-resolution optical (3800–6850 Å) spectrophotometer installed at the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory 1.8 m telescope. SPECTR is designed for observing the transmission spectra of transiting exoplanets. Unique features of SPECTR are its

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

A VCSEL based system for on-site monitoring of low level methane emission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Continuous monitoring of methane emissions has assumed greater significance in the recent past due to increasing focus on global warming issues. Many industries have also identified the need for ppm level methane measurement as a means of gaining carbon ...
