Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Graphite/Carbon Black Counter Electrode Deposition Methods to Improve the Efficiency and Stability of Hole-Transport-Layer-Free Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yes
The interfacial compatibility between the graphite/carbon black composite counter electrode (Gr/CB CE) and the perovskite layer is a crucial determinant of the performance of the hole-transport-layer-free carbon-based perovskite solar cells, and ...

Parameterization of Convective Transport in a Lagrangian Particle Dispersion Model and Its Evaluation

open access: yes, 2007
This paper presents the revision and evaluation of the interface between the convective parameterization by Emanuel and Živkovic´-Rothman and the Lagrangian particle dispersion model “FLEXPART” based on meteorological data from the European Centre for ...

The effects of water and microstructure on the performance of polymer electrolyte fuel cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
n this paper, we present a comprehensive non-isothermal, one-dimensional model of the cathode side of a Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell. We explicitly include the catalyst layer, gas diffusion layer and the membrane.

Inverted device architecture for high efficiency single-layer organic light-emitting diodes with imbalanced charge transport

open access: yesNature Communications
Many wide-gap organic semiconductors exhibit imbalanced electron and hole transport, therefore efficient organic light-emitting diodes require a multilayer architecture of electron- and hole-transport materials to confine charge recombination to the ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Moisture and salt transport in three-layer plaster/substrate systems

open access: yes, 2010
We have investigated whether a plaster which has two plaster layers with different pore sizes can act as a salt accumulating plaster system, in which salt crystallizes in the base layer of the plaster and not in the substrate or at the external surface ...

Scalar Transport Characteristics Near the Turbulent/Non-Turbulent Interface in a Reactive Jet Flow

open access: yes气体物理
Turbulent/non-turbulent interface (T/NTI) layer separates the turbulent and non-turbulent regions. The study of T/NTI is helpful to deepen the understanding of mass transfer between turbulent and non-turbulent regions.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Analysis of transonic aerodynamic interference in the wing-nacelle region for a generic transport aircraft

open access: yes, 2005
This paper presents results of a numerical investigation dealing with steady and unsteady aerodynamic wing-nacelle-pylon (WNP) interference effects. In the first part of the paper the design process of the generic WIONA (Wing with Oscillating Nacelle ...
