Fast and optimal transport of atoms with non-harmonic traps [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 92, 043410 (2015), 2015
We investigate the fast transport of an atom or a packet of atoms by different kinds of non-harmonic traps including power-law traps. The study is based on the reverse engineering method. Exact results are obtained and applied to design robust transport protocols.

Insights into transport mechanism from LeuT engineered to transport tryptophan [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal, 2011
LeuT is a bacterial homologue of the neurotransmitter:sodium symporter (NSS) family and, being the only NSS member to have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography, is a model protein for studying transporter structure and mechanism. Transport activity in LeuT was hypothesized to require structural transitions between open-to-out and ...

Research on Soil Cutting with a Flat Cutter Using a Simulation Model

open access: yesCommunications
The research aims to develop an algorithm for modelling the process of cutting an infinite volume of soil with a flat cutter in the Abaqus software package. The hypothesis of the existence of energy and volume of resistance to cutting is proposed.

Optimization of Assignment of Rapid Train Stops: Example of the JR Nambu Line

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2012
On many railway lines, not only local trains but also rapid trains are operated. Operating rapid trains can improve the convenience of the passengers, but that outcome strongly depends on the assignment of rapid train stops, the associated timetable, and

Stacking and interlayer electron transport in MoS2 [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B 98, 115403 (2018), 2018
In this work, we investigate the effect of the stacking sequence in MoS2 multilayer systems on their electron transport properties, through first-principles simulations of structural and electron transport properties. We show that interlayer electron transport is highly sensitive to the stacking sequence of the multilayers, with specific sequences ...

Passenger evacuation during subway escalator malfunction under mass passenger flow

open access: yesShenzhen Daxue xuebao. Ligong ban
Subway stations are characterized by mass passenger flow, complex evacuation routes and limited underground space. Failure to evacuate passengers in a timely manner during emergency situations may lead to panic, serious safety accidents and property loss.

'Resilience thinking' in transport planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Resilience has been discussed in ecology for over forty years. While some aspects of resilience have received attention in transport planning, there is no unified definition of resilience in transportation. To define resilience in transportation, I trace
