Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Navigating the EU Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages: Danish Perspectives on collective bargaining and adequate minimum wages

open access: yesItalian Labour Law e-Journal
The contribution aims to offer some Danish perspectives on Directive 2022/2041 on adequate minimum wages in the European Union. Three aspects are considered, including the characteristics of the Danish regulation of wages, how the Directive has been ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

The Sound of Images. Musical Resonances Between Story and Illustration

open access: yesRivista di Storia dell'Educazione
There are illustrated texts that manage to generate music; sometimes, they do so through direct and precise references to composers and pieces, other times through an impressionistic hybridization that conveys fleeting atmospheres those same atmospheres ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Complex Congenital Heart Lesion - Should We Operate or Not?

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Cardiology
Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) is a rare congenital anomaly defined by double discordance – atrioventricular and ventricular-arterial. ccTGA frequently has associated lesions, which influence long-term survival.

Comparison of Elevation and Transposition Techniques for Brachiobasilic Arteriovenous Fistula: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
Background: Brachiobasilic fistula (BBF) is an established vascular access option in patients with end-stage renal disease when distal fistulas are not suitable.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Innovative technique to cover exposed dura mater after occipital osteomyelitis, using our triple layer using matriderm. A case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery
Reconstructing a large, full-thickness cranial defect caused by trauma, with exposed dura mater, can be very challenging when using free or regional flaps. The wide current international practice is to employ either free flaps in fit patients or regional
