Characterizations of Transversal and Fundamental Transversal Matroids [PDF]
A result of Mason, as refined by Ingleton, characterizes transversal matroids as the matroids that satisfy a set of inequalities that relate the ranks of intersections and unions of nonempty sets of cyclic flats. We prove counterparts, for fundamental transversal matroids, of this and other characterizations of transversal matroids.

We prove a best possible transversality theorem for maps from manifolds to orbifolds, and, more generally arbitrary differentiable Deligne-Mumford classifying champs, 0.1, of groupoids R -> U in separated, 0.2, manifolds.

A transversal in a rooted tree is any set of nodes that meets every path from the root to a leaf. We let c(T,k) denote the number of transversals of size k in a rooted tree T. We define a partial order on the set of all rooted trees with n nodes by saying that a tree T succeeds a tree T' if c(T,k) is at least c(T',k) for all k and strictly greater than

Some general remarks on parton transverse spin distributions and transverse motions are presented. The issue of accessing experimental information on the transversity distributions h_1^q is discussed. In particular direct information could be obtained from Drell-Yan processes with polarized protons and antiprotons (planned at GSI), while indirect ...

Tight-binding models can accurately predict the band structure and topology of crystalline systems and they have been heavily used in solid-state physics due to their versatility and low computational cost.

A flat of a matroid is cyclic if it is a union of circuits; such flats form a lattice under inclusion and, up to isomorphism, all lattices can be obtained this way. A lattice is a Tr-lattice if all matroids whose lattices of cyclic flats are isomorphic to it are transversal. We investigate some sufficient conditions for a lattice to be a Tr-lattice; a

Conic singularities and immediate transversality [PDF]
I introduced the notion of immediate transversality in a recent paper on $A_\infty$-structures on Morse complexes. I the present chapter, I prove that immediate transversality holds for every compact submanifold with $C^1$ conic singularities, not only ...

Writing from the Milieu. Towards a Practice of Transversal Poetics as Method
In this essay, I make a case for transversal writing as a method for artistic re search. I use transversal to describe a writing entity that is capable of shifting across media and disciplines, while remaining open for critical reflection.
