A Shear Deformation Model for Transverse Cracking in Composite Laminates

International Journal of Damage Mechanics, 1993
Transverse cracking is often the earliest failure mode of composite lami nates with off axis plies. These cracks usually cause stiffness reductions and thus adversely affect performance. In this article, a shear deformation model for the stress analysis of symmetric laminates with centrally located 90° plies subjected to transverse

Including Transverse Shear Deformation in Laminate Theory

1999
The classical theory of laminates (Chapter 14) based on Kirchoff’s hypothesis allows us to describe, with a good precision, the stress and strain fields in laminates that are not very thick, except in the little extended region near the free edges of the laminates.

On the Effect of Transverse Shear Deformability on Stress Concentration Factors for Twisted and Sheared Shallow Spherical Shells

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1986
Explicit solutions are obtained, in terms of modified Bessel functions, for the problems of transverse twisting and of tangential shearing of transversely shear-deformable shallow spherical shells with a small circular hole. The relevant stress concentration factors are calculated for the entire range of a rise-to-thickness ratio parameter and a ...

The nonlinear, third-order thickness and shear deformation theory for statics and dynamics of laminated composite shells

, 2020
The present study introduces a rigorous higher-order polynomial in the thickness coordinate to develop a theory with thickness and shear deformations for doubly curved, laminated composite shells.

Parametric instability of laminated composite plates with transverse shear deformation

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1990
Abstract The instability of composite laminated plates under uniaxial, harmonically-varying, in-plane loads is investigated. Both symmetric cross-ply laminates and antisymmetric angle-ply laminates are analyzed. The first-order shear deformation plate theory is used to model composite laminates.

On the Effect of Shear on Plastic Deformation of Beams Under Transverse Impact Loading

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1960
The impact problem for a rigid-plastic beam is formulated by using an interaction curve relating shearing force and bending moment for fully plastic action, and allowing for shear and rotary inertia effects. Using a simplified interaction diagram, the problem of point-impact loading is solved for a special case.

Effect of Transverse Shear on Deformation of Thick Laminated Sandwich Plates

Key Engineering Materials, 2006
The effect of transverse shear on the deformation of thick laminated sandwich plates under cylindrical bending is studied, based on the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) with the application of shear correction factor (SCF). It is shown that depending on the mechanical and geometrical properties of the layers, the contribution of the ...

A General Transverse Shear Deformation Theory of Anisotropic Plates

1987
The development of consistent refined theories of anisotropic plates (and shells) which discard the Kirchhoff hypothesis has attracted increasing attention during recent years. Outside the purely heuristic interest the advent of the new exotic materials, such as the advanced composites, has generated the greatest stimulus for such interest.

Nonlinear Responses of Rectangular Magnetoelectroelastic Plates with Transverse Shear Deformation

Key Engineering Materials, 2016
With employing the transverse shear deformation theory and von Karman plate theory, the nonlinear static behavior of a simply supported rectangular magnetoelectroelastic plates is investigated. According to the Maxwell’s equations, when applying the magnetoelectric load on the plate’s surfaces and neglecting the in-plane electric and magnetic fields in

Stability of a Rectangular Plate Capable of Transverse Shear Deformations

2008
The stability of a rectangular plate, when its two opposite edges are hinged, and the third edge is under sliding contact conditions, are considered; for the fourth edge, two cases are studied: sliding contact conditions and “restricted” sliding contact conditions.
