Illuminating New Frontiers: Exploring the Photosensitizing Potential of Passiflora Species in Combating Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Their Infection in Senescent Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study investigates the photosensitizing potential of Passiflora cincinnata in Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) against skin infection caused by Methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in a senescent murine model. The P. cincinnata exhibits antimicrobial activity, with reduced bacterial load, lower leukocyte infiltration, and ...

Traumatic brain injury

open access: yesLiječnički vjesnik
Advances in trauma care have allowed persons with traumatic brain injury to survive at increasingly greater rates. However, they commonly go on to experience complex symptoms including changes in cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning that together limit functioning and quality of life.

Neural Correlates of Outcome Anticipation in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
Outcome anticipation is not only a mental preparation for upcoming consequences, but also an essential component of learning and decision-making. Thus, anticipation of consequences is a key process in everyday functioning.

Infrared Neural Stimulation Elicits Distinct Molecular Pathways in Astrocytes Based on Laser Pulse Parameters

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Infrared (IR) light evokes distinct calcium and water transport responses in astrocytes, depending on stimulation duration and protocol. This study uses widefield imaging and pharmacology to reveal differential engagement of astroglial signaling pathways.

Transducer Materials Mediated Deep Brain Stimulation in Neurological Disorders

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review discusses advanced transducer materials for improving deep brain stimulation (DBS) in neurological disorders. These materials respond to light, ultrasound, or magnetic fields, enabling precise, less invasive neuromodulation. Their stimulus‐responsive properties enhance neural control and adaptive therapy, paving the way for next‐generation ...

Postconcussion Syndrome / Disorder or Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: diagnostic issues and treatment

open access: yesAdvances in Clinical Neuroscience & Rehabilitation, 2015
Traumatic brain injury at the milder end of the spectrum is far more common than the moderate-severe spectrum. Mild traumatic injury (mTBI) accounts for approximately 80% of traumatic brain injuries [1].

Ferroptosis Contributes to Neuronal Death and Functional Outcome After Traumatic Brain Injury*

open access: yesCritical Care Medicine, 2019
Objectives: Traumatic brain injury triggers multiple cell death pathways, possibly including ferroptosis—a recently described cell death pathway that results from accumulation of 15-lipoxygenase–mediated lipid oxidation products, specifically oxidized ...

Functional Hydrogel for Modulating Lipid Droplets and Neuroinflammation in Head Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
After TBI, elevated cholesterol levels in activated microglia lead to the accumulation of cholesterol esters in lipid droplets, exacerbating neuroinflammation. A β‐cyclodextrin‐conjugated GelMA (βCD‐GelMA) hydrogel is developed to promotes cholesterol efflux and reduces LDL influx, thereby alleviating intracellular cholesterol and lipid droplet buildup.

Engineering Topographical Cues to Enhance Neural Regeneration in Spinal Cord Injury: Overcoming Challenges and Advancing Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) poses significant challenges for regeneration due to a series of secondary injury mechanisms. How to use biomaterial approach to target the failed regeneration after SCI remains a critical challenge. This review systematically evaluates current strategies to optimize biomaterial topographies for neurite outgrowth, axonal ...
