A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Imperforate nasopharynx in a cat successfully treated with an extended palatoplasty

open access: yesJournal of Feline Medicine and Surgery Open Reports
Case summary A female intact domestic shorthair kitten was evaluated at 8 months of age for bilateral mucopurulent nasal discharge, stertor, open-mouth breathing and difficulty eating. Imperforate nasopharynx (INP) was diagnosed on oronasal examination under anesthesia.

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Synthetic Controls with Staggered Adoption [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Staggered adoption of policies by different units at different times creates promising opportunities for observational causal inference. Estimation remains challenging, however, and common regression methods can give misleading results. A promising alternative is the synthetic control method (SCM), which finds a weighted average of control units that ...

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...

A Case of a Failed Hemiarthroplasty of the Hip Treated by an Extended Trochanteric Osteotomy

open access: yesCureus
Hip bipolar hemiarthroplasty, a widely employed surgical intervention for managing hip fractures and degenerative hip diseases, can pose significant challenges when revisions become necessary due to complications such as implant loosening, instability, or breakage.

Cellular liquid biopsy provides unique chances for disease monitoring, preclinical model generation and therapy adjustment in rare salivary gland cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Recurrence of neovascular age-related macular degeneration after discontinuation of modified treat and extend treatment

open access: yesScientific Reports
We evaluated the incidence and risk factors for recurrence in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) who discontinued anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy under a modified treat-and-extend (TAE) protocol.

Predicate Gradual Logic and Linguistics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
There are several major proposals for treating donkey anaphora such as discourse representation theory and the likes, or E-Type theories and the likes. Every one of them works well for a set of specific examples that they use to demonstrate validity of their approaches.

Targeting rapid TKI‐induced AXL upregulation overcomes adaptive ERK reactivation and exerts antileukemic effects in FLT3/ITD acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptive ERK reactivation hinders FLT3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment in FLT3/ITD acute myeloid leukemia. Here, we report that FLT3 TKI treatment rapidly induces AXL expression and upregulation that is temporally associated with the adaptive ERK reactivation.
