Comprehensive Analysis of the Effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan According to Sex Among Patients With Heart Failure and Reduced Ejection Fraction in PARADIGM‐HF

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Women with heart failure (HF) ejection fraction appeared to respond more favorably to sacubitril/valsartan, compared with valsartan, than men in PARAGON‐HF (Prospective Comparison of ARNI With ARB Global Outcomes in Heart Failure With ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Application of Causal Forest Model to Examine Treatment Effect Heterogeneity in Substance Use Disorder Psychosocial Treatments

open access: yesInternational Journal of Methods in Psychiatric Research
Objectives Heterogeneity of treatment effect (HTE) is a concern in substance use disorder (SUD) treatments but has not been rigorously examined. This exploratory study applied a causal forest approach to examine HTE in psychosocial SUD treatments ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

The Effect of Alendronate Treatment on Bone Density and Bone Markers in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

open access: yes, 2002
The objective of this blind, randomized controlled study was to evaluate effect of 12 months alendronate treatment on bone mineral density (BMD) and bone formation, resorption markers in postmenopausal osteoporotic women. Women with BMD values at least 2

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

SIDE EFFECTS OF TREATMENT WITH BENZODIAZEPINES

open access: yesPsychiatria Danubina, 2010
The use of benzodiazepine anxiolytics and hypnotics continues to excite controversy. Views differ from expert to expert and from country to country as to the extent of the problem, or even whether long-term benzodiazepine use actually constitutes a problem.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
