Blow me down:A new perspective on Aloe dichotoma mortality from windthrow [PDF]
BackgroundWindthrow, the uprooting of trees during storms associated with strong winds, is a well-established cause of mortality in temperate regions of the world, often with large ecological consequences.

A snap‐top delivery nanosystem based on an azobenzene metal–organic framework achieves targeted release of 6‐mercaptopurine via acid‐stable frameworks and hypoxia/pH dual‐responsive β‐cyclodextrin gates. This multifunctional platform integrates three synergistic mechanisms: precision drug delivery to inflammatory sites, intrinsic antioxidant properties

Physiology and Growth of Douglas-Fir and Redwood Seedlings Planted After Partial Harvesting
Reforestation following timber harvests and natural disturbances is an essential component of sustainable forest management. As disturbances such as drought-induced mortality and wildland fires spread across many forests of the western United States, a ...

An integrated computational screening strategy identified ursolic acid (UA) and 18β‐glycyrrhetinic acid (18βGA) as a self‐assembling food‐derived molecular pair. The resulting carrier‐free nanoparticles (UA‐18βGA) showed synergistic antiparasitic activity, reduced combined toxicity, and host‐protective anti‐inflammatory effects in zebrafish and murine ...

A dataset collected from central South Finland was used to investigate the mortality of boreal trees. The mortality rate was found to be the order of three times that predicted by earlier Nordic mortality models, being in the upper range of international literature observations. Small subpopulations of any tree species tend to die out. The mortality of

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Secreted Nonstructural Protein 3 is a Pathogenic Determinant of Orbivirus
This study uncovers a conserved PIP2‐dependent secretory pathway of orbivirus NS3 that induces vascular leakage. Pharmacological disruption of PIP2‐NS3 interaction significantly reduces viral pathogenicity and provides protective efficacy in murine models, establishing PIP2‐mediated NS3 secretion as both a key virulence determinant and a promising ...
