The use of X-ray method to study annual growth variation of Pinus eldarica [PDF]

open access: yesتحقیقات علوم چوب و کاغذ ایران, 2013
Using non-destructive methods to study forest productivity and wood quality as well as annual growth variations deserve special importance. In this regard annual growth changes of Pinus eldarica include width of the spring and summer rings and percentage

Spurious shear induced by the tree rings of the LSST CCDs

open access: yes, 2015
We present an analysis of the impact of the tree rings seen in the candidate sensors of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) on galaxy-shape measurements. The tree rings are a consequence of transverse electric fields caused by circularly symmetric

Variations of radiocarbon in tree rings: southern hemisphere offset preliminary results [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland and University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand radiocarbon laboratories have undertaken a series of high-precision measurements on decadal samples of dendrochronologically dated oak (Quercus patrea ...

Tree Rings: A Climate Record of the Past [PDF]

open access: yes
This activity will help students learn about how tree rings provide a record of past growing conditions and, by inference, climate. They use this principle to work out how cores from three different trees (three strips of paper marked with stripes to ...

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...

X-ray based tree ring analyses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this thesis, two x-ray based dendro-analyses (batch-wise microdensitometry and energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF)) and the conditions under which these methods could be used on the two typical boreal conifers Norway spruce (Picea abies (L ...

Does Cedrela always form annual rings? Testing ring periodicity across South America using radiocarbon dating

open access: yes, 2017
Tropical tree rings have the potential to yield valuable ecological and climate information, on the condition that rings are annual and accurately dated.

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Laser Photoacoustic Detection of CO2 in Old Disc Tree-Rings

open access: yesSensors, 2010
A homemade CO2–laser photoacoustic spectrometer has been used for monitoring CO2 in gas samples extracted under vacuum from the wood of old spruce disc tree-rings for a ~60 year series.
