Screening for microbial trehalases: extracellular trehalases produced byFusarium species
World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1997Two hundred microorganisms comprising actinomycetes, bacteria, fungi and yeasts were screened for extracellular trehalases by their growth on trehalose in solid and liquid culture.Candida albicans, Gelasinospora retispora and four isolates belonging to the genusFusarium produced extracellular trehalases.

Trehalase: Induction inBacillus cereus

Trehalase activity in Selaginella martensii
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1969Abstract The content of α,α′-trehalose in fronds of Selaginella martensii was shown to be 2.4% by isotope dilution analysis. Trehalose- 14 C supplied to the cut ends of detached fronds did not accumulate, however, but gave a labelling pattern in the leaves identical with that obtained with d -glucose- 14 C, indicating a common pathway of ...

Inhibitors of Pig Kidney Trehalase
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1995Trehazolin, a new trehalase inhibitor isolated from the culture broth of Micromonospora, was reported to be a highly specific inhibitor for porcine and silk worm trehalases with IC50 values of 5.5 x 10(-9) and 3.7 x 10(-9) M, respectively (O. Trehalase Isozymes in Amniotic Fluid
Asia-Oceania Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1986AbstractA technique has been developed for the separation of trehalase isozymes by poly‐acrylamide slab gel electrophoresis in horizontal plates. Amniotic fluid was found to contain two isozymes at middle gestation and two or three isozymes at late gestation. Meconium at middle gestation and newborn urine contain only low‐mobility isozyme.

Renal trehalase: Function and development
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 19901. Following injection of trehalose into the bloodstream, no trehalose was found in urine of rabbits until the concentration of trehalose in blood exceeded 0.6 mg/ml. 2. Absence of trehalose in urine of the rabbit when the concentration of the sugar in blood is elevated supports the hypothesis that renal trehalase functions as a digestive enzyme in ...

Trehalase polymorphism in Drosophila melanogaster
Biochemical Genetics, 1986The disaccharide trehalose is a major substrate for energy production and macromolecular synthesis in many insects (Friedman, 1978). As the principle hemolymph sugar, the utilization of trehalose and the maintenance of hemolymph trehalose concentrations have been implicated in a diversity of physiological processes, including flight metabolism (Clegg ...

Characteristics of trehalase inCandida tropicalis
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1952The trehalase content of different yeasts varies widely. A strain ofCandida tropicalis was found to be the best source of this enzyme among the yeasts tested. The trehalase activity in this yeast could be increased 8.5 times by growing it on trehalose rather than glucose. Thus trehalase is an adaptive enzyme inC. tropicalis.

An acid trehalase-sucrase aggregate was purified (by 780-fold) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, following conventional protein purification techniques, to an apparent yield of 18.5%. The aggregate was electrophoretically homogeneous but contained 175, 90, 68, 60, 40 molar mass (kDa) bands on SDS-electrophoresis.
