Renal trehalase: Function and development
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 19901. Following injection of trehalose into the bloodstream, no trehalose was found in urine of rabbits until the concentration of trehalose in blood exceeded 0.6 mg/ml. 2. Absence of trehalose in urine of the rabbit when the concentration of the sugar in blood is elevated supports the hypothesis that renal trehalase functions as a digestive enzyme in ...

Trehalase polymorphism in Drosophila melanogaster
Biochemical Genetics, 1986The disaccharide trehalose is a major substrate for energy production and macromolecular synthesis in many insects (Friedman, 1978). As the principle hemolymph sugar, the utilization of trehalose and the maintenance of hemolymph trehalose concentrations have been implicated in a diversity of physiological processes, including flight metabolism (Clegg ...

Characteristics of trehalase inCandida tropicalis
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1952The trehalase content of different yeasts varies widely. A strain ofCandida tropicalis was found to be the best source of this enzyme among the yeasts tested. The trehalase activity in this yeast could be increased 8.5 times by growing it on trehalose rather than glucose. Thus trehalase is an adaptive enzyme inC. tropicalis.

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1996
An acid trehalase-sucrase aggregate was purified (by 780-fold) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, following conventional protein purification techniques, to an apparent yield of 18.5%. The aggregate was electrophoretically homogeneous but contained 175, 90, 68, 60, 40 molar mass (kDa) bands on SDS-electrophoresis.

Urinary Trehalase Activity in Chronic Glomerulonephritis
Nephron, 1993To determine the diagnostic role of urinary trehalase in chronic glomerular disease, urinary trehalase activity and other urinary markers such as N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG), alanine aminopeptidase (AAP), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (gamma-GTP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), lysozyme and beta 2-microglobulin (BMG ...

Plasma trehalase activity in diabetes mellitus
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1970Abstract Trehalase is an enzyme which hydrolyses the disaccharide trehalose to glucose. This enzyme is widespread in nature and found in various human tissue and in human plasma. Trehalose synthesis and degradation has been considered as possibly having a role in carbohydrate transport mechanisms.

Trehalases of the fleshfly Sarcophaga barbata
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1970Abstract Two types of trehalase are present in the flight muscle of Sarcophaga barbata ; one is soluble and the other particulate. The soluble trehalase is apparently contained in blood trapped between muscles and within the extracellular spaces of the muscle. The particulate trehalase is a mitochondrial enzyme which is firmly bound to mitochondrial

Specificity of sugar cane trehalase
Phytochemistry, 1980Abstract An extract containing trehalase and invertase was prepared from apical internodes of sugar cane. The extract hydrolysed three glucosides: maltose, trehalose and sucrose. By reprecipitation with ammonium sulphate, maltase and trehalase activities appear to be due to different enzymes.

Serum trehalase: assay and normal values
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1970Abstract A method is presented for the evaluation of serum trehalase. It depends on the determination of glucose, produced from trehalose after incubation with serum. Glucose is determined without deproteinization, either with glucose oxidase, or with o-toluidine.

Plasma trehalase activity and diabetes mellitus
Biochemical Genetics, 1989Trehalase is an enzyme which hydrolyzes the disaccharide trehalose, yielding glucose. It is widespread in nature and found in various human tissues as well as in human plasma. The synthesis and degradation of its substrate trehalose have been considered as being implicated in carbohydrate transport mechanisms.
