Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, 2014
The precise way that tremors emerge is not well known, but there is some good information and hypotheses. This review will focus on the classic ("rest") tremor of Parkinson disease and essential tremor. Both have their genesis in central oscillators, which appear to be malfunctioning networks.

Essential Tremor and Parkinson’s Disease: Exploring the Relationship
Tremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements, 2019Background There is longstanding controversy surrounding the possible link between essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). Inconsistent and unreliable diagnostic criteria may in part account for some of the difficulties in defining the ...

Movement Disorders, 1992
AbstractA variety of hyperkinetic movement disorders has been associated with the use of neuroleptics (dopamine receptor blocking drugs), but tardive tremor has not been previously documented. We describe five patients in whom tremor occurred after chronic treatment with neuroleptics, was aggravated by and persisted after neuroleptic withdrawal, and ...

The purpose of this review is to explain a practical clinical approach to the diagnosis and management of tremor.A number of rare but important causes of tremor have been delineated, which means that attention to detail in clinical assessment of patients with tremor is even more important.Tremors are best divided into those occurring mainly at rest ...

Tremor is one of the most common disorders in the population of patients diagnosed with movement disorders. In the literature we find several classifications and different types of tremors. Each tremor type has its own characteristics. The most frequently used and widely accepted tremor classification divides tremors according to clinical appearance ...

Neurology, 1989
We diagnosed 24 patients, 9 men and 15 women ranging in age from 15 to 78 years, with clinically established or documented psychogenic tremors. Clinical presentations were unique, with complex tremors (often resting, postural, and kinetic), unusual temporal profiles (abrupt onset with a variable course), absence of other neurologic signs, inconsistent ...

Neurology, 1982
We made accelerometric recordings of the tremor induced by valproic acid. The tremor was similar to essential tremor and appeared within a month of starting therapy. It was present at rest and exacerbated by action or antigravity positioning. There was no close correlation of tremor severity and plasma valproate level, but the tremor usually appeared ...

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2013
The pathophysiology of tremor disorders is reviewed in the context of pharmacologic and surgical treatment. The anatomical origin and pathophysiologic mechanism of tremorogenic oscillation are unknown for all tremor disorders. Except for Parkinson tremor and rhythmic cortical myoclonus, the discovery of drugs for tremor disorders has been largely ...

‘Orthostatic tremor’ in familial‐essential tremor
Neurology, 1986We studied a family with essential tremor of the arms. Some members also had tremor of the trunk and legs on standing, but not on walking, sitting, or reclining. Tremor was evoked, regardless of body or limb position, by strong tonic contraction of the appropriate muscles; it was a type of static postural tremor.

Atypical tremors, rare tremors and unclassified tremors
1984Tremors have been conveniently classified according to their clinical appearance, as to whether they are present at rest, with posture holding, with action, or on approaching a target (Fahn, this volume, chapter 26). Within each of these categories are tremors of different aetiologies.
