Survival of contagious ovine digital dermatitis (CODD)‐associated treponemes on disposable gloves after handling CODD‐affected feet [PDF]
Both contagious ovine digital dermatitis (CODD) and bovine digital dermatitis (BDD) are causes of infectious lameness in sheep and cattle, respectively, and are strongly associated with the presence of specific treponemes, with three different cultivable

THIS IS the first report of the persistence of spirochetes in the temporal bone in congenital syphilitic deafness despite penicillin therapy. Report of a Case This case was previously reported in detail by Karmody and Schuknecht 1 to emphasize the histopathological changes in the temporal bone in congenital syphilis. Uveitis and Intraocular Treponemes
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1970A study of aqueous humor specimens from 50 patients with active uveitis of undetermined etiology revealed that six of these patients had organisms in their aqueous which were morphologically indistinguishable from Treponema pallidum . The organisms from five of these six reacted specifically with rabbit anti-T pallidum globulin.

Formation of multiple treponemes
Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, 1994The formation of pseudomulticellular treponemes was analyzed using different electron microscopical methods such as thin sectioning, freeze fracturing and scanning electron microscopy. The development of spherical bodies is preceded by the formation of unseparated helical forms and plait-like structures.

On the antiquity of treponemal infection
Medical Hypotheses, 1989Documentation of the treponemal etiology of reactive bone formation in a pleistocene bear supports unprecedented antiquity of treponemal bone infections. The spectrum and implications of osseous treponemal disease in the New and Old World are reviewed in light of past perspectives and contemporary investigative techniques.

To the Editor. —In reference to the article entitled "Uveitis and Intraocular Treponemes" by Randolph Whitfield, MD, and Emil Wirostko, MD, ( Arch Ophthal 84 :12-15, 1970), I would like to point out the similarity between the "treponemes" shown in their photomicrograph and what we have termed "glass shavings" in our article "Treponema-like Forms and ...

Lipid catabolism of cultivated treponemes
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1982Treponema require long-chain fatty acids for growth in vitro. Serum, added to culture media, provides a source of long-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids, however, are esterified to triglycerides, phospholipids, and cholesterol. In this study, the major pathways of complex lipid catabolism in T. phagedenis, T. denticola, T. refringens, T.

STUDIES WITH THE TREPONEMAL IMMOBILIZING TEST
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1954The widespread use of the standard serologic tests for syphilis and the known occurrence of a sizeable number of biologically false positive serologic tests has created a major problem in diagnosis. No solution to this problem had been offered until 1948, when Nelson1developed the treponemal immobilizing test.
