Abstract Background and Objectives The detection of treponemal antibodies, which are used to make a diagnosis of syphilis, is important both for diagnostic purposes and as a mandatory blood donor test in most countries. We evaluated the feasibility of using Kode Technology to make syphilis peptide red cell kodecytes for use in column agglutination ...

Hemagglutination treponemal test for syphilis [PDF]
Sera from 290 hospital patients were tested to compare the sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility of the hemagglutination treponemal test for syphilis (HATTS) with the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption test (FTA-ABS). Complete agreement was obtained between the methods when 142 syphilitic sera from patients with various stages of ...

Succession of the oral microbiome with the increasing severity of periodontitis
Changes in the human microbiome in the development of chronic inflammatory diseases are always an interesting scientific topic. This study focuses on the succession of oral microbiome with the increasing severity of periodontitis. The authors have applied multiple new algorithms, such as SourceTracker, site specialist, neutral community model, and ...

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum. It progresses in phases and undiagnosed disease can cause considerable morbidity. Tertiary syphilis causes the formation of gummas. Liver involvement is rarely described and usually limited to transaminase elevation during primary syphilis. We present a case of tertiary syphilis

BackgroundPathogenic treponemes related to Treponema pallidum are both human (causing syphilis, yaws, bejel) and animal pathogens (infections of primates, venereal spirochetosis in rabbits). A set of 11 treponemal genome sequences including those of five

Treponeme Outer Envelope: Chemical Analysis
The chemical composition of the outer envelope (OE) of Treponema phagedenis biovar Kazan 5 was investigated. After cultivation in a lipid-defined medium, the OE was removed from the cells with 0.7 mM sodium dodecyl sulfate. The solubilized OE was reaggregated by dialysis against 20 mM MgCl2, washed, lyophilized, and subjected to chemical analysis.

A Metataxonomic Tool to Investigate the Diversity of Treponema
The genus Treponema contains a number of human and animal pathogenic as well as symbiotic bacteria that are found in vastly different anatomical and environmental habitats. Our understanding of the species range, evolution, and biology of these important
