Niosomes as carriers for tretinoin II. Influence of vesicular incorporation on tretinoin photostability

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2003
In this work, we compared the chemical stability of tretinoin (TRA) in methanol and in vesicular suspensions exposed both to UV and artificial daylight conditions with the aim of evaluating the potential of niosomes as topical carriers capable of improving the stability of photosensitive drugs.

HPLC determination of the stability of tretinoin in tretinoin–minoxidil solution

Pharmaceutica Acta Helvetiae, 1998
Abstract A new formulation of topical tretinoin–minoxidil solution was prepared and the chemical stability of tretinoin was studied for 6 months at 4°C. A reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed for determination of tretinoin using cyanocobalamine as an internal standard. Tretinoin was shown that to be stable

PHOTOAGING AND TRETINOIN

Dermatologic Clinics, 1998
Premature skin aging caused by repeated exposure to solar radiation is called photoaging. Although once considered an irreversible process, it is now established that photoaging can be treated by topical tretinoin. Both from carefully designed controlled clinical studies; and basic investigations into the mechanism by which tretinoin improves photoaged

Investigation on the photostability of tretinoin in creams

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2007
In this investigation, the photodegradation of some tretinoin cream formulations was evaluated. Several oils were selected to prepare the cream formulations: olive oil, maize oil, castor oil, isopropyl myristate and Miglyol 812. A solubility study showed that tretinoin is best soluble in castor oil (0.60g/100ml), followed by isopropyl myristate, maize ...

Niosomes as carriers for tretinoin

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2006
The influence of drug thermodynamic activity and niosome composition, size, lamellarity and charge on the (trans)dermal delivery of tretinoin (TRA) was studied. For this purpose, tretinoin was incorporated at saturated and unsaturated concentrations in both multilamellar (MLV) and unilamellar (UV) vesicular formulations using two different commercial ...

Historical perspectives of tretinoin

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1986
The vitamin A acid story began when topical application of vitamin A (retinol) produced no therapeutic results in dyskeratotic conditions. It was logical to try metabolites of retinol topically. I published results of studies in 1962 that showed that topical tretinoin was beneficial in ichthyosis, actinic keratoses, and other hyperkeratotic conditions.

Treatment of Acanthosis Nigricans With Tretinoin

Archives of Dermatology, 1991
REPORT OF A CASE A 55-year-old Indian man presented to the dermatology service at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md, with a chief complaint of discoloration and thickening of the skin of his axillae, popliteal fossae, the dorsal surface of his toes, and the posterior aspect of his neck.

Tretinoin in the removal of eyeliner tattoo

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1999
Eyelid tattooing is a commonly performed procedure. For at least 100 years, it has been performed by medical and nonmedical professionals. Complications can occur; the main one is improperly placed pigment. To date, the most frequently reported methods to remove eyeliner tattoos have been laser treatments or surgical correction.

Topical Tretinoin for Photoaged Skin

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1988
To the Editor. —The article by Weiss et al 1 does not present convincing evidence that application of topical tretinoin improves photoaged skin, even within the context of the small number of patients studied and the short follow-up period. Photographic factors must be kept constant for valid demonstration of subtle morphological changes in "before ...

Tretinoin Treatment of Steroid Acne

Archives of Dermatology, 1973
High doses of corticosteroids in connection with immunosuppressive therapy precipitate a distinctive eruption, steroid acne. A sudden outcropping of densely aggregated, uniform, follicular, reddish papules is succeeded in wave-like progression by numerous whiteheads (closed comedones) that eventually transform into blackheads (open comedones).
