Artemia Enrichment Strategies: A Comprehensive Review of Nutritional Enhancements With Emphasis on Fatty Acid Profiles in Aquatic Species

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 17, Issue 4, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Artemia (brine shrimp) is a foundational live feed in global aquaculture, renowned for its adaptability, ease of production, and favorable nutritional profile. However, in its natural state, Artemia contains suboptimal levels of highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs), particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA ...

Comparing frying performance of oleogels prepared from various wax types under repeated frying cycles

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 105, Issue 10, Page 5458-5469, 15 August 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND Recently, oleogel has been proposed as an excellent substitute for conventional vegetable oils for deep‐frying applications. Waxes are the most used oleogelators and are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Pharmacological but Not Physiological Levels of GDF15 and FGF21 Regulate Body Weight and Glycemic Control in Obese Mice

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 15, 15 August 2025.
GDF15 and FGF21: Endogenous vs. pharmacological effects on body weight in mice. ABSTRACT GDF15 and FGF21 are stress‐induced hormone‐like factors with putative roles in the regulation of energy homeostasis. Since their plasma levels increase with obesity, it has been proposed that GDF15 and FGF21 jointly impose a cap on weight gain during diet‐induced ...

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 8, Page 2249-2269, August 2025.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.
