Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Plasticity Improvement of Ball-Spun Magnesium Alloy Tube Based on Stress Triaxiality

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
The effects of thickness reduction, feed ratio, and ball diameter, and their coupling effects, on the average relative stress triaxiality during spinning are discussed via simulation results.

Effects of the Earth’ s triaxiality on the polar motion excitations

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2012
his study aims to evaluate the significance of the Earth’s triaxiality to the polar motion theory. First of all, we compare the polar motion theories for both the triaxial and rotationally-symmetric Earth models, which is established on the basis of the ...

An instability in triaxial stellar systems [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, 2008
AbstractThe radial‐orbit instability is a collective phenomenon that has heretofore only been observed in spherical systems. We find that this instability occurs also in triaxial systems, as we checked by performing extensive N ‐body simulations whose initial conditions were obtained by sampling a self‐consistent triaxial model of a cuspy galaxy ...

Advanced Electron Microscopy and Microcomputed Tomography Analysis of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Base Superalloys After Short‐Term Multiaxial Creep

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the anisotropic behavior of circular notched tensile specimens of Ni‐base superalloy single crystals during high‐temperature tensile creep along [001], [110], and [111]. Correlative scale‐bridging imaging of specimens reveals early rupture along [110] because 1) plastic deformation proceeds faster at notch center; 2) more (brittle ...

Triaxial Ellipsoidal Quantum Billiards [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Physics, 1999
The classical mechanics, exact quantum mechanics and semiclassical quantum mechanics of the billiard in the triaxial ellipsoid is investigated. The system is separable in ellipsoidal coordinates. A smooth description of the motion is given in terms of a geodesic flow on a solid torus, which is a fourfold cover of the interior of the ellipsoid.

Intelligent Orthopedics: Machine Learning in Diagnosis of Bone Disease, Implants, and Bone Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Efficient recovery from traumatic or degenerative diseases is a great challenge, even after all the advancements in bone and cartilage regeneration. Machine learning (ML) algorithms have presented opportunities to enhance these aspects by accurately analyzing imaging data.

Strain Engineering of Magnetoresistance and Magnetic Anisotropy in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Biaxial compressive strain significantly enhances magnetoresistance and critical saturation fields in thin flakes of the 2D magnet CrSBr, along all three crystallographic axes. First‐principles calculations link these effects to strain‐induced increases in exchange interactions and magnetic anisotropy.

PWSCC Growth Assessment Model Considering Stress Triaxiality Factor for Primary Alloy 600 Components

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2016
We propose a primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) initiation model of Alloy 600 that considers the stress triaxiality factor to apply to finite element analysis.

A Superlubricated Magnetically Steerable Microcatheter with Integrated Optical and Fluidic Channels

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A magnetically steerable microcatheter with integrated optical and fluidic channels is developed for multifunctional navigation in tortuous anatomical environments. A surface‐grafted hydrogel coating enables low‐friction actuation. The device demonstrates stable light and fluid delivery during magnetic manipulation, offering a compact platform for ...
