Tailoring microstructure and phase segregation for low friction carbon-based nanocomposite coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Friction has a direct relation with the energy efficiency and environmental cleanliness in all moving mechanical systems. To develop low friction coatings is extremely beneficial for preserving not only our limited energy resources but also the earth’s ...

Characterization of Tribofilm from Sulfurized Mohwa Oil [PDF]

open access: yesISRN Mechanical Engineering, 2011
The reaction products of sulfurized Mohwa oil with iron powder in hydrocarbon medium at 150°C for 8 h were studied to investigate the type of lubricant films formed during their application as antiwear and extreme pressure additives. The main reaction product was isolated on the basis of its solubility in mixed solvent.

Enhanced Surface Properties and In Vitro Corrosion Tests of Ti─Nb─Sn Coating on CoCrMo Alloy for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2026.
Ti–Nb–Sn thin films were deposited on CoCrMo alloy by DC magnetron sputtering to enhance surface performance for biomedical applications. The coating significantly improved corrosion resistance in PBS by reducing corrosion current density and increasing polarization resistance. Tribological tests under dry and PBS conditions revealed a marked reduction

Synergistic Enhancement of Mechanical and Tribological Properties in TiB2/Mo Composites via Core–Shell Structure Mediated Dislocations Migration

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Ceramic reinforcement is crucial for crafting ultrastrong and wear‐resistant metallic components. However, pronounced stress concentration and strain incompatibility at ceramic–metal interfaces often trigger microcrack initiation and ceramic spalling exacerbating friction under sliding conditions.

How the fluorographene replaced graphene as nanoadditive for improving tribological performances of GTL-8 based lubricant oil

open access: yesFriction, 2020
Fluorographene, a new alternative to graphene, it not only inherits the 2-dimensional (2D) layered structure and outstanding mechanical properties, but also possesses controllable C–F bonds.

The Effect of Temperature and Physical State of Water on the Frictional Properties of Chlorite‐Altered Basaltic Gouges (Krafla Geothermal Field, Iceland)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Changes in the physical state of water may alter fault frictional properties in high‐temperature geothermal systems, yet they have been little studied. Here, we perform slide‐hold‐slide experiments to examine the frictional properties (frictional strength μss and frictional healing Δμ) of chlorite‐altered basalt from Krafla Geothermal Field ...

Friction and Electrical Contact Resistance of Iridium-Containing DLC Coatings for Electrically Conductive Tribo-Elements

open access: yesTribology Online, 2009
Electrically conductive tribo-coatings (i.e. Ir-DLCs) were developed using a hybrid deposition process, combining RF-PECVD with DC magnetron sputtering of Ir.

Design of novel experimental techniques to investigate the formation of nanoparticle-based tribofilms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Nano-engineered lubricant additives such as organically-active nanoparticles of molybdenum disulphide (Hybrid-milled MoS2) are becoming increasingly popular in the fight against harsh friction and wear that occurs during boundary-layer lubrication.

Effects of Carbon Nanoparticles on Triboelectro‐Induced Surface Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 6, 18 March 2026.
Carbon nanoparticles added to grease modify the electrocontact behavior. The synergy of particle concentration and electric current dominates the surface damage of metals in contact. Electrical surface damage caused by current leakage is a critical challenge in high‐performance applications such as electric vehicle (EV) drivetrains and wind turbine ...
