Non‐albicans Candida in Vulvovaginal Candidiasis: Antifungal Resistance and Expression of ERG11, CDR1, CDR2, and MDR1 Genes

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
The rise in azole resistance among Nakaseomyces glabratus and Pichia kudriavzevii presents a growing public health challenge. These results indicate that even in cases where an isolate is classified as susceptible by drug susceptibility testing, elevated gene expression may persist, and treatment should not be discontinued.

NanoMLST: A High‐Throughput Bacterial Multi‐Locus Sequence Typing Workflow Using Oxford Nanopore Next‐Generation Sequencing for ESKAPE + E Pathogens

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
NanoMLST is a workflow suggested as a viable alternative to high‐throughput ST determination for ESKAPE + E pathogens using ONT next‐generation sequencing. ABSTRACT Multi‐Locus Sequence Typing (MLST) is a key method for allocation of Sequence Types (STs) for bacterial isolates. Traditionally, this is performed by the Sanger sequencing method, which can

Fungal DNA‐barcoding on a chip: Magnetoresistive biosensors for yeast infection diagnosis

open access: yesVIEW, Volume 6, Issue 6, December 2025.
The development of a fungal pathogen identification chip is herein demonstrated. Hybridization dynamics were tested against 58 species in silico and 4 species on chip. 95% accuracy, 91% sensitivity, 98% specificity and femtomolar limit of detection were achieved. Future perspectives include the integration of sample pre‐treatment modules.

HIV‐Exposed Seronegative Female Sex Workers Show Different Cellular Immune Profiles Across the Menstrual Cycle

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Reproductive Immunology, Volume 94, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Problem Female sex workers (FSWs) are at higher risk of acquiring HIV. Interestingly, some FSWs who are highly exposed remain seronegative for HIV (HESN). This natural resistance to HIV infection has been attributed to an immune quiescence (IQ) phenotype.

A Viral RNA Silencing Suppressor Modulates Reactive Oxygen Species Levels to Induce the Autophagic Degradation of Dicer‐Like and Argonaute‐Like Proteins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 44, November 27, 2025.
Understanding the virus‐host arms race has been a fascinating topic in virology; contributing significantly to the development of treatments and control strategies for viral diseases. CHV1 employs a sophisticated counter‐defense mechanism in its fungal host by utilizing a viral silencing suppressor to inhibit fungal FMN reductase; thereby modulating ...

FIGO good practice recommendations on preconception care: A strategy to prevent preterm birth

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 171, Issue 2, Page 574-587, November 2025.
Abstract Preterm birth (PTB) remains one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality and long‐term morbidity worldwide, with minimal progress being made in reducing its incidence, particularly in low‐resource settings. Preconception care is recognized as an effective strategy for PTB prevention; however, the fact that more than half of pregnancies ...
