AbstractFirst evidence for the existence of free trifluoromethyl anion CF3− has been obtained. The 3D‐caged potassium cation in [K(crypt‐222)]+ is inaccessible to CF3−, thus rendering it uncoordinated (“naked”). Ionic [K(crypt‐222)]+ CF3− has been characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, solution NMR spectroscopy, DFT calculations, and ...

Trifluoromethylation of Benzoic Acids: An Access to Aryl Trifluoromethyl Ketones
Organic Letters, 2021The trifluoromethylation of benzoic acids with TMSCF3 was achieved through nucleophilic substitution with the use of anhydrides as an in situ activating reagent. Under the reaction conditions, a wide range of carboxylic acids including the bioactive ones worked well, thus providing a facile and efficient method for preparing aryl trifluoromethyl ...

Copper-Mediated Trifluoromethylation Using Phenyl Trifluoromethyl Sulfoxide
Organic Letters, 2014A new method for the generation of trifluoromethylcopper ("CuCF3") species from readily available phenyl trifluoromethyl sulfoxide has been developed. The "CuCF3" reagent can be applied in efficient trifluoromethylations of aryl iodides and activated aryl bromides in the absence of additional ligands.

2-Trifluoromethylated Indoles via Radical Trifluoromethylation of Isonitriles
Organic Letters, 2014Either two or three C-C bonds are formed in the synthesis of 2-trifluoromethylindoles starting with readily prepared isonitriles and the Togni reagent as CF3 radical precursor. These transformations occur in the absence of transition metal, and products are obtained in moderate to good yields with excellent diastereoselectivity.
