Alfalfa‐Based Dehydrated Silage Pellet as a Source of Nutrients in Laying Hens: I. Effects on Animal Performance and Egg Quality

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Alfalfa‐based silage pellets (ABSP) showed significant results regarding production performance, yolk colour and ω‐3 (PUFAs), as well as the ratio ω‐6/ω‐3 (p < 0.05). The ABSP group also exhibited a higher abundance of beneficial bacteria and a lower abundance of pathogenic bacteria compared to the control group (p < 0.05).

15Nitrogen uptake from shallow- versus deep-rooted plants in multi-species mixtures and monoculture grassland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Only few studies have explored the importance of functional diversity in temperate agricultural grasslands in relation to nitrogen (N) uptake. This study investigates the consequence of growing deep-rooted plants together with grass-clover mixtures in ...

Legume based plant mixtures for delivery of multiple ecosystem services: An overview of benefits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
As costs for mineral fertilizers rise, legume-based leys are recognised as a potential alternative nitrogen source for crops. Here we demonstrate that including species-rich legume-based leys in the rotation helps to maximize synergies between ...

Chemical Composition and In Sacco Degradation Kinetics of Four Common Biowastes in Canterbury

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 69, Issue 1, February 2026.
This research aimed to quantify the chemical composition and rumen degradation kinetics of three local and one imported biowaste using the in sacco nylon bag technique. Triplicate samples of oven‐dried biowastes ground to 4 mm were incubated in the rumens of four cows for 0 h, 2 h, 4 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h and 72 h.

Playground tree diversity: A driver of well‐being in preschool children

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 486-503, February 2026.
Abstract Urban greenspaces benefit mental health in adults, with increasing evidence that biodiversity might also play a role. However, we know very little about the impact of urban biodiversity on preschool children's well‐being, despite the critical importance of the formative years.
