Advance Microbiota Transplantation: A Novel Addition–Subtraction Paradigm for Optimising Faecal Microbiota Transplantation

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 3, March 2026.
This review proposes Advance Microbiota Transplantation (AMT), a pre‐peri‐post transplant ‘addition–subtraction’ framework that integrates donor–recipient optimisation, product engineering, and post‐transplant recipient adjuvant management to enhance conventional FMT efficacy and mitigate its limitations. ABSTRACT Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT)

Molecular basis of antibiotic sensing by the TetR family regulator CecR – a structural perspective

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 6, Page 1801-1817, March 2026.
Escherichia coli CecR, a member of the TetR family regulators, senses selected antibiotics and activates the expression of a putative drug efflux pump. Although present in many pathogenic Enterobacteriales strains, CecR remains poorly characterized. We present the first CecR crystal structure, which reveals a unique tunnel‐like ligand‐binding cavity ...

Efficacy of probiotics (Bifidobacterium bifidum G9‐1) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease complicated by constipation: An exploratory, multicenter, open‐label, single‐arm study (BIRDIE study)

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 3, Page 470-482, March 2026.
Bifidobacterium bifidum G9‐1 improved stool form, defecation frequency, and Quality of Life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease complicated by constipation. ABSTRACT Introduction Although constipation is a major complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease, evidence for its treatment in these ...

Bacterial Extracellular Vesicles in the Pathogenesis and Treatment of Liver Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 41, Issue 3, Page 880-894, March 2026.
Liver diseases are a major global health challenge, with current treatments inadequate. This review highlights the role of bacterial extracellular vesicles in liver inflammation, fibrosis, and metabolism. We also explore these from commensals and probiotics, their protective effects, and discuss research challenges and future therapeutic potential ...

Impacts of Lifestyle and Microbiota‐Targeted Interventions for Overweight and Obesity on the Human Gut Microbiome: A Systematic Review

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 27, Issue 3, March 2026.
Dietary interventions showed the strongest evidence for improving microbiome composition. Probiotics and prebiotics consistently increased beneficial bacteria. Exercise and fecal microbiota transplantation had limited evidence but showed potential for microbiome modulation.
