Stress-induced amorphization as a transformation plasticity mechanism demonstrated in forsterite

open access: yesCommunications Materials
Although stress-induced amorphization has recently been identified as a new and distinctive plasticity mechanism, a formal framework for its systematic application in materials engineering is still lacking. In this study, we establish that stress-induced

TESTING FOR DIFFERENTIAL EFFECTS OF FOREST FIRES ON HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING DEMAND AND BENEFITS [PDF]

open access: yes
Surveys of visitors to National Forests in Colorado were conducted to determine whether different fire ages and presence of crown fires have different effects on hiking and mountain biking recreation visits and benefits. Actual and intended behavior data

Some hypersonic intake studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A 'two dimensional' air intake comprisipg a wedge followed by an isentropic compression has been tested in the Cranfield Gun Tunnel at Mach 8,2. These tests were performed to investigate qualitatively the intake flow starting process. The effects of cowl

Post‐Translational Modifications in Animal Circadian Clocks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Circadian clocks coordinate physiology with daily environmental cycles through conserved transcriptional–translational feedback loops. This review summarizes how post‐translational modifications fine‐tune clock function, highlights the evolutionary convergence of circadian timekeeping in Drosophila and mammals, and emphasizes the central of these ...

Analyzing Urban Human Mobility Patterns through a Thematic Model at a Finer Scale

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2016
Taxi trajectories reflect human mobility over a road network. Pick-up and drop-off locations in different time periods represent origins and destinations of trips, respectively, demonstrating the spatiotemporal characteristics of human behavior.

The influence of heat treatment on the microstructure of medium carbon steel with trip effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The influence of parameters of two stage heat treatment process on microstructure steel with TRIP effect with 0,4% carbon content has been presented in the work. Suitable selected parameters of first and second stage heat treatment process as temperature

Effect of forward moment on recovery motion against tripping

open access: yesPLOS ONE
Investigating the fall recovery motion mechanism is crucial to prevent fall injuries. Among the various parameters of motion and posture, the forward moment can be considered the representative parameter of the magnitude of tripping from a kinematic perspective.

Tunable Sound Absorption via Evanescent‐Wave Coupling in Asymmetric Bilayer Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tunable sound absorption is realized through a bilayer metasurface system governed by evanescent‐wave coupling. This work demonstrates that such evanescent‐wave coupling provides a controllable scattering channel that destructively interferes with the specular reflection.

Internet mobility survey sampling biases in measuring frequency of use of transport modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We develop a quantitative analysis of the biases that arise when measuring trip frequencies for a general population through an online survey instrument.

Preparing an Effective School Trip: Precision Work

open access: yesEncyclopaideia, 2023
To provide a possible interpretation of the passive attitude often exhibited by pupils in the context of school trips, the article does not follow the path of moralistic judgement, but starts from the essence of the teaching profession, which consists in showing the world to the students.
