The physiological response of juvenile diploid and triploid Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus to exhaustive exercise

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Triploidy is an effective tool for producing sterile fishes but often results in impaired performance in commercial aquaculture. In light of this, our study compared the physiological response to exhaustive exercise in juvenile diploid and triploid Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus, a polar species with great potential for aquaculture.

Diploid Gynogenesis Induced by Heat Shock after Activation with UV-Irradiated Sperm in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss)

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
Gynogenesis is a technique used to generate diploid individuals with genetic material exclusively of maternal origin. In this study we test the hypothesis that heat shock treatment of rainbow trout eggs, activated with UV irradiated sperms, leads to the ...

Genetic Diagnoses Among Congenital Anomaly Cases in Europe: Data From the EUROCAT Network

open access: yesPaediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Surveillance of congenital anomaly prevalence over time can identify new teratogens. Anomalies with a genetic cause are excluded from the monitoring. Objectives We examined temporal changes in the proportion of genetic diagnoses among cases with a congenital anomaly.

Unbalanced sex ratio and triploidy in the genus Cyclocephala (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea: Dynastidae) in the Lesser Antilles: An example of parthenogenesis on islands?

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2014
Sex ratio and chromosomes studies were performed on six of the seven species of genus Cyclocephala present in the Lesser Antilles. Most sex ratios based on light trapping are skewed, with a frequent, but not exclusive, strong excess of females.

Selective fetal termination for preeclampsia treatment in a dichorionic gestation with a triploid fetus: A case report

open access: yesCase Reports in Women's Health, 2022
Background: Triploidy is commonly associated with the development of early-onset preeclampsia. While previable preeclampsia is often a contraindication to prolonging pregnancy, there may be rare circumstances in which an alternative approach may be ...

Automictic Reproduction in Interspecific Hybrids of Poeciliid Fish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
SummaryAutomixis, the process whereby the fusion of meiotic products restores the diploid state of the egg, is a common mode of reproduction in plants but has also been described in invertebrate animals [1, 2].
