A conserved amino acid residue critical for product and substrate specificity in plant triterpene synthases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Triterpenes are structurally complex plant natural products with numerous medicinal applications. They are synthesized through an origami-like process that involves cyclization of the linear 30 carbon precursor 2,3-oxidosqualene into different triterpene

Steroidal Triterpenes of Cholesterol Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
Cholesterol synthesis is a ubiquitous and housekeeping metabolic pathway that leads to cholesterol, an essential structural component of mammalian cell membranes, required for proper membrane permeability and fluidity. The last part of the pathway involves steroidal triterpenes with cholestane ring structures.

Triterpenes of Centaurea ptosimopappoides

open access: yesPhytochemistry, 1997
The roots of Centaurea ptosimopappoides afforded two new triterpenes; a new hopane derivative, 17β,21β-epoxy-16α-ethoxyhopan-3β-ol and a new baccharane type triterpene, 3β-acetoxy-17,24-dioxobaccharane. The known compounds, 17β,21β-epoxyhopan-3β-ol, 3β-acetoxyhop-17(21)-ene and 3β-acetoxy-erythrodiol were also isolated.

Contribution of Free Fatty Acids to Emulsion Building and Stability: Understanding the Mechanism From the Case Study of a Crude Red Palm Oil (Elaeis guineensis)—Based Emulsion Consumed in Africa and Known as Achu Soup/Sauce Jaune/Ncha

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
In an aqueous alkaline medium, fatty acids (from the hydrolysis of triglycerides or freely present in the oil) are ionised in order to form emulsifiers (carboxylates) which will physically stabilise the prepared emulsion. The higher the free fatty acids content of the oil and alkalinity of the solution, the higher will be the stability of the prepared ...

Distribution of miliacin (olean-18-en-3β-ol methyl ether) and related compounds in broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum) and other reputed sources: Implications for the use of sedimentary miliacin as a tracer of millet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceUsing sedimentary miliacin (olean-18-en-3β-ol methyl ether) as a molecular tracer of the history of Panicum miliaceum (broomcorn millet) cultivation depends upon broomcorn millet being sedimentary miliacin's dominant source. It also

Fluorescent light and sunlight radiations may improve rice bran oil colour and influence its oxidative stability and chemical composition

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract The influence of pretreatment of rice bran oil using fluorescent and sunlight radiations on its colour and their influence on its chemical composition and oxidative stability were assessed. Rice bran oil was stored under sunlight, fluorescent light and ambient conditions for 60 days. Oil samples were collected every 15 days for analysis.
