Spike productivity in relation to yield as criterion for emmer wheat breeding

open access: yes, 2011
Landraces, which are unbred cereal species, and include in particular the tetraploid emmer wheat, have become an important focus for the activities of local or organic farmers, processors and consumers of organic products. This study is based on analyses

Potential unlocked: an atlas of cloned wheat genes for genome engineering and breeding

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Strategies for introducing genome edits into a wheat breeding program and their effects on cultivar longevity. Summary Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) production is increasingly threatened by biotic and abiotic stresses. Developing varieties with improved stress tolerance and desirable end‐use qualities is crucial for meeting growing global demand ...

Формирование основных элементов продуктивности сортов пшеницы озимой в зависимости от сроков сева и норм высева в условиях Южной Степи Украины

open access: yesAgricultural Science, 2015
The influence of sowing dates and seeding rates on stem and spike productivity was studied in modern winter wheat varieties (Podolyanka, Kolchuga, Kosovyca, Natalka and Blagodarka Odesskaya) under conditions of the southern steppe of Ukraine.

A root–soil association index reveals life‐history strategies of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Phylogenetic tree of Glomeromycota, including all studied virtual taxa, based on the small subunit region. The bar plot in the external part of the phylogeny depicts the log‐transformed arbuscular mycorrhizal root–soil association index, with values > 0 indicating rhizophilic lifestyle, < 0 edaphophilic lifestyle, and close to 0 no preference.

Inheritance and potential use of grain color in the Inheritance and potential use of grain color in the identification of genotypes resistant to pre-harvest identification of genotypes resistant to pre-harvest sprouting in wheat

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2010
The inheritance of grain color and pre-harvest sprouting in wheat was studied to identify genotypes with high resistance to pre-harvest sprouting and evaluate the possible use of grain color in indirect selection of resistant lines. The genotypes of most

Deciphering Cold Stress Resilience: Multiomics Insights in Contrasting Wheat Genotypes From the Western Himalayas

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cold stress threatens wheat productivity, particularly in regions with extreme climatic conditions. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying wheat's response to cold stress, we performed a multiomics analysis integrating lipidomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics.

Characterization and gene mapping of a chlorophyll-deficient mutant clm1 of Triticum monococcum L.

open access: yes, 2013
Diploid wheat Triticum monococcum L. is a model plant for wheat functional genomics. Chlorophyll-deficient mutant (clm1) was identified during manual screening of the ethyl methanesulphonate (EMS)-treated M2 progenies of T.

Beyond Starch: Towards a Scalable Potato Platform for Molecular Farming

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Re‐engineering potato as a biosafe and host‐optimised platform for plant molecular farming by integrating intrinsic biological traits with targeted engineering strategies. ABSTRACT Thirty‐five years after the first recombinant protein was produced in potato and 30 years after clinical trials of edible vaccines from its tubers, the crop is being ...

The Transcription Factor OsWRKY64 Interacts With OsART1 to Positively Regulate Al Resistance in Rice

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
A proposed working model illustrating the cooperative regulation of Al tolerance by OsWRKY64 and OsART1 in rice. Under Al stress conditions in acidic soil, the transcription factor OsART1 directly binds to the promoter of OsWRKY64 to activate its transcription. The synthesized OsWRKY64 protein then physically interacts with OsART1 in the nucleus.
