Managing cover crop mixtures over a decade via species replacement and seeding rate adjustment
Abstract Cover crop mixtures provide ecosystem services, but species’ relative abundance in mixtures is challenging to manage. We report on an 11‐year experiment where our main objective was to use species selection and seeding rate adjustments over time to increase the evenness of mixtures.

Relay‐intercropping soybean and winter wheat in Wisconsin
Abstract Relay intercropping (RIC) of soft red winter wheat (SRWW, Triticum aestivum L.) and soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] offers potential benefits but requires optimized management. This 2‐year study (2022–2023) evaluated the effects of soybean planting date and strip‐tillage vs. no‐tillage (ST vs.

Assessing pre‐plant nitrogen sources and waterlogging on corn growth and yield
Abstract Flooding and waterlogging from strong storms can negatively affect corn (Zea mays L.) growth and yield. Ensuring adequate nitrogen (N) supply after waterlogging is key to optimizing corn yield, though limited evaluations of enhanced efficiency fertilizers have been conducted in conjunction with waterlogging conditions.

Abstract Seed color is a complex phenotype linked to both the impact of grains on human health and consumer acceptance of new crop varieties. Today, seed color is often quantified via qualitative human assessment or biochemical assays for specific colored metabolites.

Abstract As climate change continues to influence global weather patterns, the frequency and severity of drought conditions are expected to increase, posing a significant challenge to crop production. In sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench), a key cereal crop, the stay‐green trait is of particular importance as a measure of how well a genotype can ...

Abstract Global climate change has driven breeding programs to develop abiotic stress‐resilient plant varieties. Traditionally, assessing drought resilience involves labor‐intensive and time‐consuming processes. This study used an unmanned aerial system (UAS) to predict key phenotyping traits in maize (Zea mays L.) and monitor plant response to drought
