Assessing Dominant Uncertainties in Future Precipitation Projections for a Hurricane‐Prone Region
Abstract Accurate projection of future precipitation remains challenging due to uncertainties in reference data sets, bias correction and global climate models (GCMs). Here, we evaluated these uncertainties across 13 major cities of the U.S. Gulf Coast, a hurricane‐prone region, under 192 historical and future scenarios.

Intercomparison of satellite-based and model-based rainfall analyses
Four satellite rain estimations based on microwave (MW), infrared (IR) or combined MW-IR techniques are compared with the BOlogna Limited Area Model (BOLAM) rain forecast for a severe weather event (8–13 November 2001) over the western Mediterranean Sea.

On the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) [PDF]
Recognizing the importance of rain in the tropics and the accompanying latent heat release, NASA for the U.S. and NASDA for Japan have partnered in the design, construction and flight of an Earth Probe satellite to measure tropical rainfall and calculate the associated heating. Primary mission goals are: 1) the understanding of crucial links in climate

Tropical Cyclone Rainfall Spatial Asymmetries in the Lesser Antilles
Rainfall is not proportional to the Saffir‐Simpson wind‐based categories. Lower category tropical cyclones (TS, H1, H2 and H3) can generate more intense rainfall than H4 and H5. Rainfall is asymmetric; as a tropical cyclone intensifies or weakens, the location of peak rainfall shifts.
