Meteorological Applications, Volume 33, Issue 5, September/October 2026.The unusual development and landfall of Tropical Cyclone Hidaya in May 2024 in Tanzania was at an exceptionally low latitude. Although tropical cyclones rarely form or persist this close to the equator due to weak planetary vorticity, Hidaya was a rare event that challenges established dynamical constraints on tropical cyclone activity.
