Rainfall Contribution of Tropical Cyclones in the Bay of Bengal between 1998 and 2016 using TRMM Satellite Data

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
In the Bay of Bengal (BoB) area, landfalling Tropical Cyclones (TCs) often produce heavy rainfall that results in coastal flooding and causes enormous loss of life and property.

Drying Effect of Landfalling Tropical Cyclones

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract The high precipitation efficiency of tropical cyclones (TCs) is theorized to dehydrate the atmosphere, a process with important climate implications that has yet to be confirmed by direct observational evidence. Using satellite and reanalysis data, this study statistically examines the drying effect of landfalling TCs. Results indicate a local

Differences in Lightning—Storm Microphysical Relationships in Subtropical South America Versus the Continental U.S. and Their Impact on Model Lightning Parameterizations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Satellite studies have shown that some of the deepest convection with high lightning flash rates occurs downstream of the Andes in subtropical South America (SSA). Using high resolution ground‐based observations in SSA, we explore the relationship between lightning and radar‐inferred storm microphysics.

Characteristics and sources of errors in daily TRMM precipitation product over Ganjiang River basin in China

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2013
In order to ensure rational utilization and to improve rainfall retrieval algorithms,it is of great significance to illustrate the characteristics and the sources of errors in the daily Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission(TRMM)3B42V6 precipitation ...

The TRMM Measurement Concept

open access: yesMeteorological Monographs, 2003
The relationship between the microwave radiometer and the precipitation radar on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission TRMM satellite is inherently complementary. Neither sensor by itself would be adequate to achieve the TRMM objectives but the match between the strengths and weaknesses of each sensor results in an extremely powerful payload.

Buoyancy Flux and Its Environmental Modulation in the Vertical Development of Shallow Cumulus in the Central Amazon

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract This study investigates the vertical development of shallow cumulus (ShCu) clouds in the Central Amazon (CAMZ) by combining large‐eddy simulations (LES) with observational data from the GoAmazon2014/5 campaign. Analyses of turbulent kinetic energy budgets, updraft mass flux, moisture flux, and surface fluxes across cloud sizes indicate that ...

Strategic Roadmap for Addressing Microplastic Pollution in the Global South: Bridging Monitoring Gaps, Harmonizing Methods, and Building Analytical Capacity

open access: yesEnvironmental Quality Management, Volume 35, Issue 4, Summer 2026.
ABSTRACT Microplastic (MP) pollution represents a growing environmental challenge, especially in tropical and subtropical coastal regions of the Global South, where methodological fragmentation, funding discontinuity, and dependence on external analytical infrastructure limit the production of comparable data and the formulation of evidence‐based ...

Controls on Valley‐Floor Width in the Western Andes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract River‐valley floors are low relief, confined parts of the landscape that store sediment en route from mountains to lowlands. Transient sediment storage influences sediment budgets, biogeochemical cycles, and the preservation of environmental signals. The controls on valley‐floor width remain poorly understood, limiting the ability to reproduce
