Evaluating the influence of lake morphology, trophic status and diagenesis on geochemical profiles in lake sediments

open access: yes, 2010
Recent geochemical studies provide evidence that changes in vertical distributions of nutrients in lake sediments are driven by anthropogenic activities, based primarily on trends of increasing concentrations in upper sediment layers.

A Circuit of Mechanically Regulated Transcription Factors Balances Regenerative and Fibrotic Memory of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.

The Zambian macrophyte trophic ranking scheme, ZMTR:a new biomonitoring protocol to assess the trophic status of tropical Southern African rivers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Journal ArticletThe Zambian macrophyte trophic ranking system (ZMTR) is a new bioassessment scheme to indicate thetrophic status of tropical southern African river systems. It was developed using a dataset of 218 samplesof macrophytes and water chemistry,

TROPHIC STATUS OF PHYTOPLANKTON AS BIOINDICATOR OF EUTROPHICATION LEVEL OF FLOOD RETENTION PONDS IN SAMARINDA CITY

open access: yesJurnal Pendidikan Matematika dan IPA, 2022
The flood retention pond in the city of Samarinda, is a body of stagnant water (lentik), the flow of water is not so large that it affects the life of the organisms in it. The research was carried out in December 2020 - March 2021 at three stations using

Nanomedicine Meets Immunotherapy: Advancing Adoptive Cell Therapy with Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Cancer with Sustainability Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review surveys nanoparticle‐based strategies to enhance adoptive cell therapy, particularly CAR‐T cell approaches, in solid tumor treatment. It describes how nanoparticles can improve tumor immunogenicity and T‐cell infiltration while reducing toxicity, and how they enable in vivo CAR‐T cell generation.

Organoid Brain‐Machine‐Interface Devices for Central Nervous System Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We envision organoid brain‐machine‐interface (Organoid‐BMI) devices as new biohybrid bidirectional communication pathways to connect the human CNS and the external world for personalized CNS repair and regeneration. ABSTRACT Central nervous system (CNS) repair and regeneration suffer from tremendous clinical challenges due to current limitations in ...

Trophic Diversity in Duckweed: Mixotrophy, More Than the Sum of its Extremes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the context of rising DOC in aquatic environments, mixotrophic duckweed may impact carbon cycling by acting as either a carbon sink, as they absorb CO2 through photosynthesis, or a carbon source, as they release CO2 through respiration of absorbed DOC, which depends on DOC concentration, light availability, temperature, and other environmental ...

Cyanobacteria respond to trophic status in shallow aquatic ecosystems

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment
Small and shallow water bodies are particularly sensitive to adverse conditions connected with anthropogenic eutrophication. As model systems, ponds are a good object for ecological research and monitoring of global environmental changes. We examined cyanobacteria along with other groups of algae versus zooplankton and abiotic characteristics of water ...
