Respiration in the Cysts and Trophozoites of Giardia muris [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology, 1989
Cysts and trophozoites of the parasitic protozoon Giardia muris both showed respiratory activity but respiration in cysts was only 10 to 20% that of trophozoites. The O2 dependence of respiration in cysts and trophozoites showed O2 maxima above which respiration decreased.

Variables Affecting the Recovery of Acanthamoeba Trophozoites [PDF]

open access: yesPathogens, 2021
While the results of Acanthamoeba testing have been extensively published, laboratories conducting such testing are left to develop their own methods in the absence of a standardized methodology.

Effects of monosaccharides including rare sugars on proliferation of Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites in vitro [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2023
Entamoeba histolytica is a parasitic protozoan with roles in pathogenicity of intestinal amoebiasis. E. histolytica trophozoites lack functional mitochondria and their energy production depends mostly on glycolysis.

Intravascular detection of Giardia trophozoites in naturally infected mice

open access: yesParasite, 2003
During routine transmission electron microscopic (TEM) examination of mice naturally infected with Giardia muris, an intense infection with Giardia trophozoites was demonstrated within intestinal and renal tissues.

Influence of Micropatterned Grill Lines on Entamoeba histolytica Trophozoites Morphology and Migration [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2018
Entamoeba histolytica, the causal agent of human amoebiasis, has two morphologically different phases: a resistant cyst and a trophozoite responsible for the invasion of the host tissues such as the colonic mucosa and the intestinal epithelium. During in

Extracellular Vesicles of Giardia duodenalis: Unravelling Their Virulence Factors and Potential to Induce Protection Against Experimental Giardiasis. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Extracell Biol
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are key mediators of intercellular communication, enabling trans‐kingdom exchange of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and metabolites. In Giardia duodenalis, EVs contribute to parasite survival, host–pathogen interactions, and immune modulation.

Enhancing Acanthamoeba diagnostics: rapid detection of viable Acanthamoeba trophozoites and cysts using viability PCR assay

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is a sight-threatening corneal infection that is challenging to diagnose and treat due to the resistance of Acanthamoeba to standard antimicrobial agents. Current detection methods have limitations. This study aimed to develop

Plasmodium vivax trophozoites insensitive to chloroquine [PDF]

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2008
AbstractBackgroundPlasmodium vivaxis a major cause of malaria and is still primarily treated with chloroquine. Chloroquine inhibits the polymerization of haem to inert haemozoin. Free haem monomers are thought to catalyze oxidative damage to thePlasmodiumspp. trophozoite, the stage when haemoglobin catabolism is maximal.

Comparative Genomic and Transcriptomic Profiling Revealed the Molecular Basis of Starch Promoting the Growth and Proliferation of Balantioides coli

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Carbohydrates are the main source of nutrition for B. coli, supplying energy for cell growth and development. The research aimed at investigating the mechanism of starch on the growth and replication of B. coli. Single-cell separation was used to isolate
