Tropical Modeling of Battery Swapping and Charging Station

open access: yesMathematics
We propose and investigate a queueing model of a battery swapping and charging station (BSCS) for electric vehicles (EVs). A new approach to the analysis of the queueing model is developed, which combines the representation of the model as a stochastic ...

Tropical and Algebraic Curves with Multiple Points [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Patchworking theorems serve as a basic element of the correspondence between tropical and algebraic curves, which is a core of the tropical enumerative geometry. We present a new version of a patchworking theorem which relates plane tropical curves with complex and real algebraic curves having prescribed multiple points.

Mitigating Black Pod Disease in Cocoa Plants: An Optimal Control and Cost‐Effectiveness Analysis

open access: yesNatural Resource Modeling, Volume 39, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Black pod disease (BPD), caused by Phytophthora species, continues to pose a significant threat to cocoa production, particularly in tropical regions where cocoa farming is a major economic activity. This study develops a deterministic compartmental model to understand the transmission dynamics of BPD and evaluate the impact of multiple ...

Alternative representations of the Aalen‐Johansen estimator of the state occupation probabilities in multi‐state models

open access: yesStatistica Neerlandica, Volume 80, Issue 3, August 2026.
Abstract Multi‐state models are a flexible framework for analysing processes that evolve through different states over time, with applications in medicine, demography, and economics, among others. A key quantity of interest is the state occupation probability, commonly estimated by the Aalen‐Johansen estimator.

Classical and Quantum Dilogarithm Identities

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2011
Using the quantum cluster algebra formalism of Fock and Goncharov, we present several forms of quantum dilogarithm identities associated with periodicities in quantum cluster algebras, namely, the tropical, universal, and local forms. We then demonstrate

Moisture Decomposition With Normal Modes in Global Data: Balanced and Unbalanced Components

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Decompositions with normal modes have been useful for numerous purposes, such as theoretical understanding of balanced and unbalanced circulations, and applications to data assimilation. However, normal mode decompositions have typically been formulated for dry dynamics without moisture.

Key considerations for the use of satellite‐based remote sensing for lake and reservoir research and management

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Given the critical importance of freshwater for human well‐being and the myriad threats altering water quality and quantity, monitoring lakes and reservoirs is necessary to identify where, how, and why freshwater ecosystems are changing globally.

Tropical cryptography III: Digital signatures

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Cryptology
We use tropical algebras as platforms for a very efficient digital signature protocol. Security relies on computational hardness of factoring one-variable tropical polynomials; this problem is known to be NP-hard.

Coexistence, crossover and extirpation in coalescent communities and ecotones

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 7, July 2026.
When two ecological communities come into contact, the strength of their mixing determines whether species coexist, extirpate, or extend their ranges. We present analytical formulas and simulations describing these transitions. Specifically, we derive abundance shifts upon community coalescence, identify the critical mixing strength leading to first ...
