Integrating biotic interactions in niche analyses unravels patterns of community composition in clownfishes

open access: yesEcological Monographs, Volume 96, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract Mutualistic interactions play a fundamental role in shaping species distributions, driving niche differentiation, and structuring communities. Yet their influence on realized niches and patterns of coexistence remains poorly understood. In clownfishes, mutualism with sea anemones underpins their biogeography and ecological success, with ...

Trends in marine species distribution models: a review of methodological advances and future challenges

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
Correlative species distribution models (SDMs) are quantitative tools in biogeography and macroecology. Building upon the ecological niche concept, they correlate environmental covariates to species presence to model habitat suitability and predict species distributions.

A Continuum of Biodiversity: Revealing Marine Tropical Fish Diversity From Intra‐ to Interspecific Variation Through Environmental DNA

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
This study applies eDNA metabarcoding on conserved and hypervariable mitochondrial markers to assess species diversity in Caribbean marine fishes and population haplotype diversity in grunts. By standardizing biodiversity monitoring across scales, eDNA provides a unified understanding of the processes generating diversity patterns from populations to ...

Patterns of River Flow Regulation Across the World's Climate Regions

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 5, May 2026.
We quantify the Impoundment Ratio (IR) for 16 060 dams worldwide to assess how reservoir capacity relative to natural runoff varies across climate regions. One‐third of dams have IR ≥ 1, with the highest values in arid and semi‐arid zones and clear national contrasts within similar climates.
