Global harms, local profits: How the uneven costs of natural disasters affect support for green political platforms

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Political Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Large‐scale fires are becoming increasingly common due to climate change. While conventional wisdom suggests that firsthand experiences with natural disasters foster green coalitions by raising awareness of environmental degradation, we propose an alternative view: Natural disasters can heighten the perceived trade‐off between economic ...

Response of Remote Tropical West Pacific Islands to Climate Variability: A Multiproxy Record From T‐Lake, Palau, Spanning the Early Holocene to Present

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lake sediments are natural archives of past environmental dynamics and how these systems have responded to past climate variability. Sediment geochemistry, governed by local geology and climate processes, is unique to each lake‐catchment and geochemical proxies must be validated for each study site.

Modelling Patterns of Past Inundation Processes Combining Geoarchaeology and Morphometric Hydrological Analysis in the Shashe‐Limpopo Basin, South Africa

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Riverine and valley systems across the globe have been central to the development of past urban centres. By AD 900, the Shashe and Limpopo Rivers seem to have facilitated the interaction and integration of early farming communities in southern Africa. This paper focuses on the application of geoarchaeological perspectives made available by the

Assessing responses of reef island seabirds to environmental and anthropogenic drivers

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Tropical insular ecosystems face escalating, cumulative impacts of land‐ and sea‐based ecological threats that jeopardize the long‐term sustainability of their native communities. This joint vulnerability is epitomized by reef island seabirds, which are exposed to reef decline and coastal erosion driven by climate change, reduction in prey ...
