Vaccination against Tropical Theileriosis

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2000
Abstract: Theileria annulata, the cause of tropical theileriosis is propagated in cattle with stage‐to‐stage transmission by Hyalomma ticks. Three stages in the life cycle of the parasite‐tick‐derived sporozoites, intramononuclear schizonts, and erythrocytic merozoites‐infect cattle.

Treatment of bovine tropical theileriosis with buparvaquone

Tropical Animal Health and Production, 1990
The antitheilerial activity of buparvaquone in crossbred male calves, experimentally infected with Theileria annulata (Izatnagar isolate) has been tested. Animals were treated intramuscularly at the dose rate of 2.5 mg/kg1 body weight. A single dose of the drug administered during the phase of ascending parasitaemia cured all the infected calves while ...

An outbreak of tropical theileriosis in cattle in Afghanistan

Tropical Animal Health and Production, 1979
An outbreak of tropical theileriosis (T. annulata infection) is reported in artificial insemination Holstein bulls in Kabul (Afghanistan). The diagnostic work at the Central Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is described and the treatment given and results obtained by the Kabul Animal Health Clinic are reported.

Current situation of tropical theileriosis in the Sudan

Parasitology Research, 2012
Tropical theileriosis has long been recognized as a hindrance to the development of sound dairy industry in the Sudan and is a cause of major economic losses. Serological surveys indicated that Theileria annulata infection is widespread in the country but the disease mostly affects exotic dairy breeds and their crosses with indigenous breeds.

Prevalence and distribution of tropical theileriosis in eastern Turkey

Veterinary Parasitology, 2005
This study was carried out to determine the prevalence and distribution of tropical theileriosis in cattle in eastern Turkey by microscopical, serological and molecular methods. A total of 1561 whole blood, 1505 serum and 1483 blood smear samples were collected from cattle of various breeds and ages in 11 towns of Eastern Turkey.

Tropical theileriosis: Cytotoxic T lymphocyte response to vaccination

Vaccine, 2008
Cattle which survive an infection with Theileria annulata become effectively immune to challenge with the same parasite strain, and are thought to be protected against a heterologous strain of the parasite. T-cells play a crucial role in both induction and maintenance of immunity to T. annulata.

Chemotherapy of bovine tropical theileriosis: Theileria annidata infection

Research in Veterinary Science, 1984
Seven groups of calves were treated with parvaquone (993C: Clexon, Wellcome) (20 mg kg-1 intramuscularly) or halofuginone lactate (1.2 mg kg-1 orally) on the first, third or sixth day of significant pyrexia following artificial infection with the Hissar strain of Theileria annulata. Eight untreated control animals developed severe theileriosis and five

Review: the cellular basis of the immunity to and immunopathogenesis of tropical theileriosis

Parasitology Research, 1999
The intracellular protozoan parasite Theileria annulata causes a severe and often fatal disease of pure and crossbred cattle in tropical and subtropical countries. Animals that recover from the infection are immune against challenge with homologous parasite strains.

Sero-epidemiological survey of tropical theileriosis in Morocco

Tropical Animal Health and Production, 1997
Theileria annulata infection (tropical theileriosis) is a disease of serious economic importance in Morocco. Epidemiological and vaccination studies have been carried out for many years in Doukkala, a region endemic for theileriosis. A vaccine based on schizont infected cells has been used extensively both experimentally and in the field.

Role of cytokines in the clinical manifestation of exophthalmia in newborn calves with tropical theileriosis

Parasite Immunology, 2020
Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate the pathology of the exophthalmia and the host‐immune response in naturally Theileria annulata ‐infected calves. The newborn calves detected positive for theileriosis were grouped into calves with theileriosis and absence of ...
