Characterization of Tropical Wood Species for Use in Civil Constructions

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering Research, 2013
Abstrac t The wood is one of the most applicable materials in industrial activit ies due to its availability allied to its satisfactory mechanical p roperties, presenting a good strength/density relation. Its versatility is fundamental fo r the large expansion of its use on structure building.

Studying the Fracture of Tropical Wood Species with the Grid Method [PDF]

open access: yes
The present study consists in studying the initiation and propagation of cracks at room temperature of three tropical species: Okume (Aucoumea Klaineana), Iroko (Pterocarpus Soyauxii) and Padouk (Malicia Excelsa). A short review of the literature shows that only few studies dealing with the fracture mechanics properties of this type of wood species are

Assessing the potential of wood welding for Australian eucalypts and tropical species [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2016
The wood welding potential of Australian and tropical species has been investigated. Optimized parameters for Eucalyptus saligna, Eucalyptus pilularis, Corymbia maculata, Ochroma pyramidale, and Tectona grandis were determined using a standard tensile strength test. The results confirmed the importance of density in the optimisation process.

Influence of testing methods to determine the bending modulus of elasticity of wood

open access: yesVértices, 2016
In Brazil, the characterization of solid wood for structural design must be carried out according to the recommendations of the ABNT NBR 7190:1997 standards. Studies about alternatives to improve reliability to test methods are always relevant. Thus, the

Task‐Oriented Path Planning Towards Autonomous Sensor Network Deployment in Rainforest Canopies

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An informative path planner for drone‐based deployment of wireless sensor networks in rainforest canopies is presented, addressing key challenges in large‐scale biodiversity monitoring. By integrating canopy surface detection with connectivity‐aware sampling under strict flight constraints, the approach enables efficient and reliable aerial sensor ...

Ignition and burning of selected tree species from tropical and northern temperate zones

open access: yesAdvanced Industrial and Engineering Polymer Research, 2023
Wood is a combustible material. Not all types of wood, however, react to ignition and burning the same way. This can vary significantly depending on the type of wood, because the physical structure (morphology), density, as well as chemical composition ...

A Global Methane Observation System to Reduce Uncertainty for Anthropogenic and Natural Sources and Sinks for Detecting and Attributing Climate Feedbacks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conceptual illustration of a Global Ecosystem Methane Observing System (GEM‐OS) integrating satellites, aircraft, atmospheric networks, and ecosystem measurements to quantify methane emissions from anthropogenic and natural sources. The multi‐scale observing framework improves source attribution, reduces uncertainty in regional methane budgets, and ...

Multi‐Scale Bionic Structure Constructs Biomass Flame‐Retardant Thermal Insulation Foam Material

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by mussel adhesion and hierarchical brick‐and‐mortar architectures, a cellulose‐based biomimetic foam is constructed by anchoring bentonite nanosheets onto a polydopamine‐decorated cellulose nanofiber network. The resulting foam combines low thermal conductivity with intrinsic flame retardancy and full biodegradability, presenting a ...

Analytical study of the dimensional stability of tropical brazilian wood species

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2023
Brazil owns a large vegetal covering and the best utilization of these materials requires physical and mechanical characterization procedures. Equations found in the literature make easier the wood properties determination. At this context, well known authors developed the equation βl = βt/23, being βl and βt the longitudinal and tangential shrinkage ...
