Bondability of tropical fast-growing tree species I: Indonesian wood species

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science, 2007
To estimate the potential bonding performance of bonded wood products from tropical fast-growing tree species, a study on the bondability of Paraserianthes falcataria L. Nielsen, Pinus merkusii Jungh et. De. Vriese, and Acacia mangium Willd from Indonesia was conducted.

Revisiting Securidaca longipedunculata Seed Oil: Applying NMR and Mass Spectroscopy to Confirm the Presence of 2‐Acetyl‐1,3‐Diacyl–sn‐Glycerols and Conjugated Hydroxydienoic Fatty Acids

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
The manuscript confirms and expands on previous reports concerning the presence of unusual conjugated hydroxydienoic fatty acids and acetyl‐TAG in the seed oil of Securidaca longipedunculata. The location of acetate only at sn‐2 of TAG was conclusively shown by high resolution NMR and hydroxy seed fatty acids are characterized.

Evaluation of the calorific values of wastes from some tropical wood species

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2020
The paper aims to analyze and classified some exotic wood species from tropical Africa, on regard to calorific features, in order to view the ability of their biomass to be a solid, natural and renewable fuel.

Turning a new leaf: PhenoVision provides leaf phenology data at the global scale

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Plant phenology dictates many aspects of community function and ecosystem dynamics. Yet, global phenology data are still limited, especially in areas lacking monitoring programs. Here we present a new data resource, PhenoVision–Leaf, which extends a computer vision pipeline utilizing iNaturalist digital image vouchers to produce global‐

Tectona grandis Linn. and its Fire Characteristics Affected by the Thermal Modification of Wood

open access: yesBioResources, 2017
After a long absence, tropical wood species are beginning to be applied in the production of interior elements and construction once again. Due to their positive reaction to thermal treatment, they are increasingly subjected to such processes.

Herbarium‐based measurements are reliable predictors of fresh plant traits in Neotropical Myrtaceae

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Herbarium specimens are increasingly used to extract morphological traits for ecological and evolutionary studies, yet the effects of tissue desiccation on trait measurements remain poorly understood. Here, we tested two hypotheses: (H1) whether higher tissue water content leads to greater measurement changes after herborization and ...

Are there morpho‐acoustic patterns of adaptation in nonhuman primate ears? Testing the role of ecology and habitat in shaping ear morphology and function

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Analysis of the variation in the bony structures of the inner and middle ear provides critical insights into functional morphology, as well as adaptive morphology across primates. In this study, we investigated whether ear morphology patterns are related to the ecological characteristics of species and their habitats to test two acoustic ...

Performance of non-biocidal wood modification techniques to enhance the durability of tropical plantation woods against biodeterioration [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Fast-growing tropical plantation woods are increasingly important as renewable raw materials; however, their high proportion of juvenile wood results in low natural durability, poor dimensional stability, and high susceptibility to biodeterioration. This

Much more than their fangs: Macroscopic anatomy of the brain of Bothrops moojeni Hoge 1966 (Squamata, Serpentes, Viperidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Neuroanatomical research has progressed considerably in several vertebrate lineages, yet studies of reptilian brain morphology remain markedly underdeveloped. Here we provide the first description of macroscopic brain anatomy and its ontogeny in the viperid Bothrops moojeni, based on a sample of seven individuals.
