Evidence that Tropoelastin Exists as a Random Coil

1977
Cells isolated from the aortae of 17-day old embryonic chicks were incubated with [3H]valine in Krebs-Ringer medium and the secreted labeled tropoelastin was isolated. This tropoelastin was studied by zone velocity centrifugation in sucrose density gradient over the pH range 2.5–12.0, and temperatures ranging from 4° to 35°.

Engineered Tropoelastin and Elastin-Based Biomaterials

2009
Elastin is a key mammalian extracellular matrix protein that is critical to the elasticity, compliance, and resilience of a range of tissues including the vasculature, skin, and lung. In addition to providing mechanical integrity to tissues, elastin also has critical functions in the regulation of cell behavior and may help to modulate the coagulation ...

Tropoelastin Biosynthesis by Corneal Cells

Ophthalmologica, 2003
The vertebrate cornea is an avascular tissue and does not contain elastic fibers. We tested the capacity of corneal epithelial cells and stromal keratocytes to synthesize tropoelastin. Explant cultures and cell cultures were obtained from these two cell types in standard culture conditions.
